I know a root canal will be needed. I was supposed to have it a while back. Now it's the weekend and I am suffering!

When the root pulp is dead there is no pain. Toothache is usually caused by gas byproducts of bacteria growing in a tooth cavity. The gas presses against the nerve tissue of the tooth, and causes the pain. A dentist can help that problem by a number of procedures. In the meantime take a pain killer, (analgesic), like aspirin, tyenol etc.. Clove oil also will do the trick. It is also antiseptic. But it is not a pleasant substance.
Good luck,
Doc. Dan.

Take Advil Liqui-gels. They have been proven to reduce pain faster and better than any other over the counter pain killer.

Don't try to get a dentist to call you in a pain killer, if he's not your dentist he shouldn't do it.

Don't take any amox, or any other antibiotic unless the Dr. tells you you should. It's not a good idea to take an antibiotic, and not finish out the entire what should be prescription. Possible resistance could form.

Just take Advil Liqui-gels. (3-4). And, I personally like aleve also. And go get the root canal treatment as soon as you can. If your dentist can't see you, many other general dentists and Endodontists(root canal guys) have appts that they keep open for emergencies.

good luck
Tyler
Oh, and some people like to put an aspirin down by the tooth that hurts...DON'T DO THAT.

I JUST went through this 2 weeks ago. I was in the worst pain of my LIFE!!!!!!

There was nothing I could find that really worked. The only relief I found was ice. I had to have a piece of ice applied to the tooth at all times. I also got the Orajel toothache relief medication. If come in like a cotton swab and you apply it to the tooth. That helped somewhat for a couple days. Otherwise, you may want to see if your dentist has an emergency number, maybe they can prescribe a really good painkiller for the next day or so........

Best of luck, NOTHING helped me until I had the root canal, I was in tears for the whole weekend. I hope your toothache isn't that severe! Nobody should have to suffer like that!

P.S.-If it does get sooo unbearable, go to the emergency room. I am sure they can at least prescribe a painkiller to get you to Monday.

ibuprofen is better than tylenol.

600-800 mg every 4-6 hrs.

you will most likely need to start antibiotics; if you have some amoxicillin or Penicillin for ex., take a 500 mg tab every six hours 'til you see the dentist (monday!!)

Note: This is NOT a substitute for real dental advice as you are NOT a patient of record! Also, i do'nt advocate taking someone else's antibiotic or old, poss. expired, etc.

Your best best if you absolutely CAN'T wait 'til mon is to go to the ER but alll they'll do is give you the abx and then maybe a narcotic pain killer to add to the ibuprofen.

That happened to me too and it was also a weekend. They started some work to get me ready for a root canal and I waited too long to go back, so the gummy stuff they used to protect my root fell off and exposed it and boy was I dying of pain so I had to go to the emergancy room and all they could do for that kind of extreme pain was a morphine shot which held me over till the following Monday.

Try really cold water. it will either soothe the pain or make the pain worse. So try just very little, if it hurts, don't do it anymore. If it doesn't hurt, keep cold water in your mouth at all times. Make lots of ice for ice water.
Next time, don't procrastinate, get the tooth removed or get the root canal done.

a good natural way to relieve a toothache is to take a whole clove bud and stickt it in your mouth right in between the tooth that's hurting and the one next to it, and it should relieve the pain for a while pretty quickly. i haven't actually tried it myself, but it's worked on my mom and she has really bad tooth problems.
it's worked on quite a few others i know as well.

the best stuff i have ever found for a tootheache is this stuff u get from walgreens or another drug store like it, its a kit that has like tooth filling stuff in it along with pain reliever in it, use the pain reliever until tylenol kicks in. if u need more info on what its called or anything let me know and i will find out, i have some and i could look for u , just email me.

what kind of pain is it giving you? sensitivity or a annoying tooth ache type pain? I would take tylenol, motrin or anything that will help numb the pain for you. try some sensodyne tooth paste if you are having sensitivity. since they cant get you in, they should offer to call you in a Rx for a pain killer while you wait. try calling them tomorrow and see if they will do that. i have to get a wisdom tooth extracted in 3 days and thats the soonest they can get me in and they called me in some meds to help hold me over until then. see if they can do that for you too!

Hi. Sorry to hear you are dealing with this. I too recently had to deal with this. Here's what helped me... 1 cup of water mixed with 1 table spoon of salt luke warm. This will help dissolve some of the bacteria causing the pain... it coul even elliminate the pain. IF u have been prescribed an antibiotic, this too will help. Definately take ADVIL LIQUID GEL CAPS!!! So, if you are drinking lots of water, swishing with the salt water, taking the ADVIL, you will feel ALOT better. Hope that helps.
