to escape from the punishment for committing crimes, like homicide, rape, some people feign that they are psychotics and their advocates argue that since their clients are psychotics they are not responsible for the acts committed by them. what techniques are used by psychiatrists to detect whether the accused is really psychotic or feigning it?

my response to your question is based upon working for 6 years in a medium security ward for the criminally insane in Canada. psychiatrists detect if one is feigning a psychosis from a variety of resources. psychologists have a series of tests for the offender that they present to the doctor. the offender is housed in a secure ward for at least thirty days, and kept under constant watch, by trained social workers, and psychiatric nurses. this information is relayed to the doctor on ongoing ward meetings. people who commit crimes and found not guilty by reason of insanity usually spend more time incarcerated, if u commit a crime, and found fit to stand trial, then u usually know when u can get out, if you are found not guilty by reason of insanity, you can spend the rest of your life locked up. some people who are psychotic, and commit a crime, are usually very paranoid, and will respond to their ' voices in their head' but usually a very small percentage. it is usually people that are psychopathic that commit these crimes. most people that are mentally ill are harmless, just like most people that are not mentally ill are harmless. hope this answers your questions.

They administer drug so that the offender goes out of his ability to concoct lies, and starts speaking the truth without thinking about the consequences.

By the way, 'libido' you are not approachable by your e-mail Id. Last few days, you have been putting questions but not selected or voted as the best answer. What is the real problem. I am sure, you must be spending hell of a time in front of your desktop with internet. You have two kids also, what I gather from your answers. How do you manage all these since May 2006, and also get 17,500 points?

Of late, your answers sound insipid and hollow. Why do not you shift from your R & S to some other category. Philosophy and Psychology are not your subjects. I am a student of 'Comparative Religions'. Though a Muslim by birth, I find Hinduism is very profound and secular. You are at an advantage to understand more of it. More serious reading of Hindu literature with a dispassionate mind may benefit you with the secret wisdom called 'Pragnya' in Hinduism.

Oh Girl, Ever been around a crazy person or an Attorney? They do have lots in common. Anyone can tell you that head doctors use an "unknown", unproven science. Our justice system lets this go on..... Every attorney knows someone - Paid Witness - who is a specialist and will say a person who is guilty as sin....is crazy and just can't help it.....AND the judges go for it. Heck, some juries go for it.

To answer you Q..... there are real test that will tell. But it depends on who pays the most in a criminal case.

Hope your not involved in deciding this for someone you care about.

Good Luck!!

One does not send them to a psychiatrist. They are interrogated in such a way that they are confronted with their own contradictions after which they break. But in other real cases, they are treated by the psychiatrist instead of continuing with the trial which would end in vain.

Mental illness tests exist which tell whether you are faking it. They even tell whether you are faking good or faking bad.
