I mean, god could forgive our sins with a snap of his fingers.

Even if he sends his son down, why does he have to die to save our souls? It is a test run? Does god need a practice try of saving a soul? How does Jesus dying forgive our sins that god could not do before?

Is the catholic faith that illogical?

Exactly. Why did Jesus HAVE to die? Why was it necessary? Why did God set that rule? God could've just as easily said "Jesus, if you pick that daisy over there, you will become the redeemer of mankind". It could've been that easy. But no. God had to REQUIRE that his only son let himself be killed in a brutal, excruciating way.

Jesus didn't have to die to save sins, you are right, God could have done it in a less gruesome and compassionate way than requiring human sacrifice.

To an ancient religion based on ritual sacrifice though, this makes sense. It seems aparent that Jesus' death on the cross was rather disappointing to his followers, and probably a bit demotivating. However, they still held him as a revered figure and religious teacher. Drawing from Israel's Scriptures, they devised a way (not deviously, but just trying to make the whole thing make sense) to add religious significance to Jesus' death. By so doing, his death was now foretold in the Scriptures and he became the final Passover Sacrifice for the atonement of sins.

This is but one theory, but a tenable one I think. Good question, and yes, the Christian belief in substitutionary atonement is a bit illogical - if not barbaric and antiquated.

The person that sins shall die -- unless the sin problem is dealt with that person can not be allowed into the Heaven of a Just and Holy God.

An "escape" is offered in that if someone were do die in the place of that person. Someone who was sinless could die for the sinner. But where do you find a lot of sinless people to die for all the sinners?

Well, God became one of Adam's fallen race (but, Himself Sinless -- you have heard of the Virgin Conception?). And since He is God He was able to bear the sins of the world; because He was God He bore our eternal punishment in those six hours on Calvary.

Why couldn't He just "forgive our sins with a snaop of his fingers"? It seems that doesn't deal with our sin nature nor satisfy His Holy and Just nature. The person that sins shall die (be separated from God); but if we are "in Christ" then we are new creations. If there had been ANY OTHER way, don't you think God would have chosen it rather than to go through the 33 years of His earthly life, His Passion and Death, the worst death ever suffered in Crucifixion ... He, Holy and Sinless, and who came from the Ivory Palaces of Heaven .... suffering and dying on the Cross, with the sins of the world separating Him from the Father ... He Who was one with the Father from all eternity.

He was delivered for our offences, and was raised for our justification.

All we like sheep have gone astray, and the Lord laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Don't know about the roman catholic faith; but the Christian Faith, "once for all delivered to the Saints" is logical.

Even God Himself said, 'come now, saith the Lord, and let us reason together; though your sin are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow'.

God is a God of justice and laws, as well as a God of mercy.

Due to the nature of Adam's sin, all of mankind was forever enslaved to Satan, sin, and death.

The only hope for mankind was Jesus, over whom the devil had no power.

Since Adam had willingly and freely made a deal with the devil, God wasn't likely to just unilaterally set it aside.

Instead, he sent his son Jesus into the world as a man.

Jesus permitted Satan to unjustly put him to death, which brought about Satan's own destruction, as no one has the authority to take the life of an innocent, sinless man, let alone the son of God..

Once that was done, the resurrected Jesus became the new head of all mankind, man was free to repent of his sins, and God was willing to forgive.

As a result of Jesus' sacrifice, man is rightfully reconciled with his creator again, human dignity is restored, and the hope of eternal life belongs to every faithful Christian.

You may think this is illogical.

I think it's not only logical, but indescribably beautiful!

Religious empires have sold that to us. Why? They are implying that if Jesus shed his blood to wash away your mistakes, then surely you can cough up some money for the collection plate, and become the puppet of my philosophy and build, maintain, and grow my religious empire.

Now, actually, I believe Jesus died on the cross to save our souls. Not the souls of those who received and understood his message. By dying on the Cross, he put a big exclamation point on his message to the world; its not the dying its the message that saves our soul, if we get the message.

What is the message? Heaven is possible, and the road to Heaven, in fact the feeling of Heaven is possible anytime you seek harmony instead of disharmony.

Proof: Close your eyes and ask God to send you the Holy Spirit to witness that Harmony will lead to heaven.

Ask any parent if they would be willing to die to save their children, the response would be absolutely!

Ask any husband who loves his wife deeply if he would be willing to die to save his wife, the response would be absolutely.

Self sacrifice is a part of True Love, not the current selfishness wrapped in narcissistic gratification.

The suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament. Gen 14:18, The bread and wine offered by the priest king Melchizedek pre figured the bread and wine offered by our eternal priest king Jesus. Remember Heb 6:20 naming Jesus high priest forever according to Melchizedek.

The Pascal Lamb- This same victim that was offered up to save the lives of the first born of Israel was also the victim consumed as food for bodily nourishment as the Israelites began their journey to the promised land. Ex 12:1-20

The Manna John 6:32-51, Ex 16:35

The Ark of the Covenant Ex 25:16, Ex 16:34, Numbers 16:25.

So Jesus suffering death and resurrection was the once for all perfect sacrifice for eternity. This was in fulfillment of the ancient Old Covenant and a sign that God fulfills His promises to His people.

Logical.

God's law states the wages of sin is death. If someone did not die for the broken law, how could God be justified in destroying Satan, the original lawbreaker? Sin is a malignancy that threatens the existence of all life that it comes in contact with. Sin must be destroyed, but how? To destroy sin, sinners must also be destroyed because they are contaminated with this disease that infiltrates every pore of their being. If God forgave sin and did not have someone pay the penalty for that sin, Satan could accuse God of being unjust in depriving him of eternal life as well.

God destroys sin and in the process, those sinners who insist on clinging to their sin are destroyed as well. God gives them the freedom of choice and abides by their choice.

quote

"This is probably because of the Christian teaching not to question the word of god. Fear of damnation keeps Christians obedient to the word no mater how strange or unacceptable the content. If one is socialized into a church with these teachings at a very young age there is a strong likelihood that he/she will not question the doctrine and it's traditions. So families trying to peruse a positive life are indoctrinated generation after generation with strange and barbaric concepts of human blood sacrifice. It is taught to children in Sunday schools around the world. It may be something your children have been exposed too. So often parents try to keep their children sheltered from violence on television and in the movies. Yet the strange and bloody teachings of Judeo-Christian cults seem completely overlooked because bible teachings are exempt from judgment and true semiotic analysis. "

Christianity, and the christian god, have always require blood sacrifice and/or burnt offerings.
With Jesus, they merely turned it into one, final human sacrifice that would pay for all sins. But, regardless, the christian god is, and always has been, a deity who requires blood sacrifice.

Romans 3:23 says All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. And Romans 6:23 says For the wages (penalty) for sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Jesus died for us because of our sin....without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. Jesus was perfect, and He was the sacrifice for us, He died in OUR place. We all are destined to go to hell because of our sin nature, but again, Jesus died for US so that we would have the opportunity to be in heaven with Him one day forever.

Jesus loves you more than you can imagine, my friend....He loves you so much that He died for you. That is love. I pray that the Lord shines His love upon your precious heart and that you come to know Jesus as your Savior. :)

All you have to do is believe that you are a sinner, believe that Jesus died for your sins, and ask Him to forgive and save you. All with a believing heart.....

My friend, today is the day of Salvation...tomorrow may never come.
