I cant get rid of mine at the moment and it just made me wonder.

I have had them for over 7 months, so I can't really feel bad for ya. They are caused by muscle spams in your stomach I think. Try sucking on a piece of candy or drinking a spoon full of vinegar it is what use to work best for me. Good Luck

I don't know where the name came from. It may be the sound that you make. But they are caused by your diaphragm is having spasms. It jerks up and causes you to hiccup. As for ways of stopping them...the list of "old wives tales" is long. What works for me is taking a big glass of water and taking 8-10 sips out of it at once with out taking a breath.

I don't really know but when u hiccup it sort of sounds like the word hiccup.

hmm I looked up the first answer and I'm not sure if it is right. I always thought it was that little bump in the word that sounds like a hiccup!
