My boyfriend told me that cactuses are filled with water so if you ever get lost ina desert, cut a cactus... is this true??

pretty close.
its actually filled with spongy-like material like a cucumber that stores quite a bit of water.
so if you are starnded in a desert, and don't cut one that could be toxic, yes you can use it to get some water.

So I've heard. Cacti have a very efficient water-storage system because they get rained on so infrequently.
