I heard that tap water is better to mix with formula than bottled water. Is this true?

Bottled Water

I have a friend who's works for NSF- a safety/quality control company that tests bottled water. He said that tap water is actually safer than bottled water because, through the botteling process, bottled water gets contaminated with bacteria and other nasty stuff. (on a side note) He also said bagged ice is the WORST regarding bacteria and contamination. I mix my daughter's formula with tap water (she's 2 1/2 mo. old) and I haven't had a problem. I don't boil it, either.

I'm not sure if this is the kind of answer you're looking for, but I saw your question and had to tell you this.

My husband's friend has a well at his house. He was having trouble with it; the water was brown and dirty, so he called out his friend who works in the well and water business. He brought a water testing kit with him, and while he was there, he said that just for fun, he would test his bottle of Aquafina AND the sample of well water.

The Aquafina (which actually was Aquafina and not water from his tap) tested to be as dirty as his well water.

True story.

It's not "better" really. I suggest you look into a filter for your tap, obtain a report from your local water company to see if they are currently meeting clean water standards (many places are NOT.. you would be surprised!). Do not use tap if your water has floride.

The reasoning is that tap water has flouride in it, which is good for children. Bottled water may or may not have any helpful minerals.

YES!!! Bottled water is NOT regulated at all. It doesn't have to be treated in any way, shape, or form. This means that it can contain harmful bacteria and compounds (like Arsenic) that can kill you. Tap water is regulated and is safe.
