It has been studied for years and some scientists say they have acheived literary communication with canines. It sounds far fetched but dogs can be trained to locate big broad letters and accociate its meaning. Such as brand names on a cereal box or other common household objects. It is useful in that a blind person may train a dog to locate household objects by using their brand name. eg. a blind person may have various types of cereal and want only a certain type on a given day. Most visual aid dogs are trained to recognize objects by their shape. However, an efficiently trained dog can actually distinguish between different types of cereal based upon their brand names. One could say to a dog bring me the frosted flakes cereal. The dog would then accociate cereal to a recangular shaped box located in the kitchen then among those boxes he could recall which one was frosted flakes due to the dogs recollection of how the brand name appeared on the box. The dog is not actually reading the printed material but recalling the shape of the letters on the product.
