what would happen if they throw a nuclear bomb in America?

throwing the bomb would not even detonate it, but to be untechnical, no, it would not destroy the continent, first off, a bomb of that size would be so much larger than any created thus far, that it would be almost possible to create

The good thing about america is, to actually defeat it with nukes, you would need many, since there is so many hot spots in the US

Do you mean launch a missile at us, or have a terrorist detonate a dirty bomb in the US?
If it was a terrorist, it would probably kill a lot of people and make even more sick from the radiation, but it wouldn't wipe out the whole continent.
If it was a missile, then it would never even make it here.

If your in the blast radius, you will be killed instantly, and if you are farther away...say the bomb lands in New York and your in Pennsylvania, the radiation will still effect you and you will start losing hair and puking blood after a while. Don't worry though, if a country managed to hit us with a nuke, we'd turn around and hit them with 3!
