I HATE that word! But I will say that people do it because of either how they were raised or who they hang out with. But there is one thing about "*****" that I have to say...in movies and on TV and often in public a black person will call another black person a "*****" and they don't mean it racially. But most black people will get pissed if an asian, mexican, italian, white, etc person called them a "*****." Why? Same reason some white people call each other "cracker" but they get pissed at other races saying it. I think people need to stop calling each other "degrading" names and then get pissed when another race says it. That's just stupid. That's one reason why some kids say it....sometimes it's not the parents' fault...it's society as a whole. This pertains to blacks, whites, asians, mexicans, etc.
As for the parents looking at you funny....I don't know if you are a parent yourself, but sometimes when kids say things you are WAY TOO EMBARASSED to even say anything...and that funny look comes across your face. It doesn't mean you don't care, it just means that you are so embarassed that you can't say anything. Some people (I'd like to think myself) would turn around, apologize and make their kid apologize. Then, they'd explain why that is not nice to say, etc. But others are very shy.
You also have to look at the stereotypes as to why they kept walking. Coming from a white culture, people portray blacks as "ghetto" people who will instantly get pissed and try to start stuff when things like this happen...so they feel better getting out of the situation. I think that's stupid but it's just how society is. Until people realize that YES, there are crappy black people, but guess what...there are crappy white people all the same, the world will always have racism. The best bet? Raise your children right and hope they follow through. That's a start.

i detect it wonderful you declare to have under no circumstances been round a racist human being. Are you purely 2 years previous??? i'm basically kidding - for sure you're older than that - yet how did you get away severe college without understanding racism first hand?

yes, it doesn't surprise me. I think there will always be racist people in the world, it's unrealistic to think it will ever completely stop.
I have friend who has a 3 year old son. The sons' dad (my friend's ex) is a racist. Her son came home from dad's one weekend and started saying that black people shouldn't play hockey. The little boy also announced in front of his 5 year old black friend, that he doesn't like black people. My friend was just beside herself, and had no idea what to say. She corrected him of course, but it was very awkward.

I have. I took africana studies and my teacher will admit to anyone that he hates whites because of what they did to blacks and he believes that every white still wants to be superior to blacks. I also went to the movies with my classmates and this black-BLACK lady turned and said that is why I hate blacks!!!!That was crazy. How can you hate your own race or something you are a part of? They had this on one of the talk shows-people of a certain race hating their own.

As long as there are humans walking on this earth there will be racisism. Undereducated people are afraid of that which is different that themselves, so they use name calling and resort to violence to "guard" against the differences.

The kids behavior is a direct result of her upbringing. It is unfortunate that her parents let her act that way, obviously they have issues as well.

I believe you...look what that Kramer from Seinfeld did! Venting his spleen like that. Unforgivable...who can forgive that? Well he can kiss his career goodbye for sure. Serves him right.
I'll never understand it.
