I was recently talking guns with some friends and work and some of them had heard it was dangerous to shoot slugs through an automatic shotgun. Some said it was dangerous to the shooter, some said it was dangerous to the gun. Anyone else ever heard anything along those lines??

It's only dangerous if you're over pressuring the shotgun, some shotgun slugs are high pressure( magnum) and some shotguns aren;t capable of handling the extra pressure, if you have a newer, good condition shotgun that can handle 3" shells, then yes, slugs should be fine in it, as long as you have the correct barrel and/or choke to shoot slugs with, the action of the gun shouldn't dictate what type of ammo(slug v/s shot) you can safely fire.

this is a private determination made after weighing the pros and cons. The shotgun has substantial balk incredibly with buckshot form a lot. The development at 15 yards is approximately 8-12" yet at 15 ft this is purely 2-3". so so which you could nonetheless purpose it. The shotgun (with 00 greenback) fires 8 or 9 small high quality, low velocity rounds. All will penetrate indoors partitions comfortably and a few exterior partitions. The style of pellets do strengthen your danger of hitting a considered necessary area, yet correct aimed will do extra for you than "pointing in the ordinary direction" the place you're in all probability to miss. Plus all those little pellets that don't hit the objective can surely flow quite a few hundred yards endangering others, purely as can any lost shot. prepare, purpose nicely, and hit your purpose. A rifle has plenty extra ability consistent with projectile than the shotgun. it many times consists of extra rounds than the shotgun which mean so which you could control the gun much less. The balk is under the shotgun and makes for a weapon this is extra user-friendly to shoot, and extra user-friendly to hire with self assurance. It makes it possible for surgical precision placement of rounds and could shop you from hitting somebody you care approximately if the undesirable guy gets on your loved ones till now you do. you have plenty extra effective fireplace superiority than the shotgun as after 6-8 rounds the shotgun desires reloading in comparison to the 30 rounds in a rifle. no longer any rifle will do. there are various calibers that are too super for self protection artwork in rifles. i might propose a .223 / 5.56mm in the two the Ruger Mini-14 or the AR-15. the two have negligible balk, are semi computerized are small and compact and upload-ons could nicely be offered that cause them to smaller, and can carry 30 around magazines (undesirable adult men are available in packs). With good Hornady 55gn ammo you have a weapon which will hit annoying, with surgical precision, and incapacitate an attacker, with diverse stick to up photographs at will. additionally inspite of which you pick, GET A WHITE mild!! something fastened to the gun, which you will activate and stale surely, to % out your purpose. The blinding white mild will make it annoying for an attacker to % out you and could positioned him on the draw back in view that he won't have the flexibility to work out previous the blinding white glare coming at him.

I've shot 2 3/4 inch slugs through my Smith and Wesson autoloader, and never had a problem.I can't say about the new guns, but I'd imagine you'd be safe as long as they're not super hot loads.
