Okay......well I don't know what all the particulars are, but it's fairly common.
About you and your wife:
It could be that your mom genuinely doesn't like your wife because they don't get along and she doesn't think she's good for you. It could be your wife's fault that things are the way they are. OR it could be that your mom wouldn't ever think that any woman is good enough to be married to her son. You've got to remember that - until she came along, your mom was the only woman in your life. At least in her eyes. Now your mom has no influence or control over you, and it's driving her crazy.
Now about your sister:
It's possible that your mom is genuinely excited about her pending marriage because she likes the guy a lot and believes them to be a good match. OR it could be that your mom is going out of her way because she really wants your sister to get married so that she'll be taken care of.
Things are different between mothers and daughters and mothers and sons.

I suspect mom views your wife as competition for your love. With a daughter, a potential son-in-law doesn't pose this threat. An old rhyme that I've always heard has more truth in it than I care to think about, as I'm also the mother of a son:
"A son is a son 'till he takes him a wife,
but a daughter's a daughter for the rest of her life."
I hope that whoever my son chooses when the time comes, I can at least get along with her, and hopefully be friends.

I think it all depends but most the time dads like the daugjhter in laws more then the moms, I get along with both my in-laws I think his dad likes me more though, I think mothers are less likely to like a son in law because they don't feel like they're daughter is gonna be taken care of the right way?? I would worry about that. Again it all depends on the person.

From what I've heard, mothers rarely get along with the daughter in law. It's something about the mother not feeling like the most important woman in her son's life anymore, but she loves you and should eventually come around.

Whether most mothers would care to admit it or not, there is a level of jealousy with the incoming "daughter".......afterall, she is taking over the space where mom used to be the "main one".
Up until this lady, mom was the one you went to when needed help of any form, did not feel well, had decisions to make about your life, beliefs, ideas.
It is kinda hard to move over gracefully and give that space to another.
Give it some time.
Encourage your wife regardless.
Stand by BOTH of them, take no side for any reason.
Love them both endlessly for they love YOU!

As a mother of both sons and a daughter, I find that I am closer with my sons ( I love them all the same, though), so maybe that is the same with your Mom, and she's a little jealous of your wife.

I think this is common, but stupid. Thank god my mother n law likes me. For some reason girls don't like each other for stupid reasons. I never understood this and I'm a girl. You should talk with your mother and find out why. Maybe you can help the situation.

I don't know...all I know is that I was always able to get along with my ex mother in law...and we are STILL friends even though I'm no longer married to her son. (I used to say I like MY mother in law better than I liked my husbands mother in law). My mother and I don't get along so it was pretty much a "given" that she and my husband wouldn't get along no matter who I married. LOL. But nope she didn't like my husband, but then she couldn't stand any guy I dated except for one.

No, it is not normal. The mother has a problem and is taking it out on the daughter-in-law.
