Whle his body lay dead in the tomb for three days, Jesus' human soul and his divine spirit went to the air conditioned part of hell to free the captives who were waiting for him in what is known as Abraham's Busom, Paradise, or Purgatory.
Then, he escorted the just to heaven.
Jesus never spent a moment suffering in the eternal damnation part of hell, becasue Jesus never sinned, and he never intended to pay for all our sins.
The proof of this is people still die today, and they still go to hell.
God doesn't make people pay twice for the same offense.
Jesus reconciled God and man, and made possible the forgiveness of sins.

He went to hell for three days....b/c He was taking on the punishment for believers.....and no im not saying u only have 2 spend 3 days there if u r a non believer......3 days in hell for a holy God is like an eternity in hell for a sinful human....but fortunately for believers He took that punishment for us so that we can spend eternity w/ Him in heaven!!! Praise God for it! Jesus loves you!

When Jesus cried out on the cross 'My God, My God! Why hast thou forsaken me!' He was crying out to his Father bc for that moment, he was alone. God is pure and just and cannot look on sin. Jesus had the sin from the world laid on his shoulders and God could not look upon Him. Jesus then took that sin to death and was ressurected to show that the only true death is seperation from God. A mortal death is merely that--mortal. We live on after death. However, a spiritual death is complete seperation from God. Jesus took the sin of the world and took it to death to defeat Satan. There is no hell just yet. Hell does not exist until the final judgement and Jesus casts down the Anti-christ/Satan and the false prophet/followers into the lake of fire. As of right now, Satan is in heaven. Jesus is at the right hand of God praying for us daily and satan is at the left hand of God condemning us. He(satan) travels from heaven to earth on a regular basis (read the first part of Job). It isn't until his fight with Michael in heaven that he is cast down to earth permenantly 3.5 years into the tribulation(after the rapture) and indwells the anti-christ(Daniel, Ezekial, Rev.).
The purpost of Christ taking the sins of the world is (a) so we can look upon him for forgiveness and (b) to cheat death and know that the war is our victory in the end!

Since the God casted Satan out of heaven and sent him to hell, Jesus took the opportunity and went down to hell to visit his brother Satan.

It makes sense to me. He had to give the people in Hell the chance to believe that he was the Messiah that had come for them. Those that believed, when he rose they did too.

While in the spirit, Jesus Christ went to the spirit world and taught the righteous spirits. He delegated priesthood holders and sent them to the unrighteous abodes and had them preach to the others.

hell is where the centre of all evil is ie the devil. if he had to fulfill his purpose which was to die for our sins, he had to go there to do so. In this way he has become our middle man between us and God.
