Yes. I had virtually no friends for the first 7 years I was studying with Jehovah's Witnesses. None of my friends would even have anything to do with me.

So far, not close friends. An acquaintance coworker found out I was an atheist, began talking about me and to me disrespectfully, and now avoids me.

I haven't really broached the subject with everyone I know. I rarely talk about religion or politics in real life. Just doesn't come up too often.

It hasn't come down to that for me, exactly, but some friendships have cooled considerably, because people don't seem to like the fact that I don't enjoy doing the same old things I used to do and going to the same old places with them. But God gave me a new nature when He saved me, and I'll never be sorry for that!

I stuck with my beliefs and actually lost one of my mates. I am not happy about it, but I was not going to give up my beliefs for friendship. My belief roots are too strong for that.

Unforunately, I have had to let go of people in my life who I felt were able to hurt me with if I allowed them to remain close to me. Their intolerance for my beliefs and values created hard feelings yet taught me how to stand up for myself.

Yes. My husband and I have consciously chosen to raise our children outside of organized religion. A life long friend of mine “found god” and decided it was her obligation to tell my children that they were sinners for not going to church and were destined for hell if they did not repent. That friend is now an ex-friend.
