If I'm walking down the street in Scotland on a regular day, not a festival or anything like that, and I'm wearing a kilt, would I get strange looks as I would if I did the same thing in the US? Are kilts accepted as regular attire for men in Scotland?

i used to think so too.
the truth is that some traditional, pure-scottish men stil do that, but most men walk around like us, button-down shirts and jeans...... the usual.
i think they all only wear it on special occasions.
i'm japanese, and this reminds me of the time someone asked me "what kind of kimonos do you wear to school?" and i thought.... wow this person is completely clueless..... but i don't think you're clueless!!!! of course not. i just think it's really funny; the slight stereotypes people from different countries have on people from other countries.
hope this helps.

Yes, although a great deal of men are dressed in modern attire, there are a great deal who also wear a kilt...and nobody from the UK bats an eyelid at it because we are used to it, and it is the national dress of the proud nation that is Scotland

I was in Scotland a few weeks ago and I did see a few men in kilts. Most of them did seem to be dressed up. They are usually worn for occasions like weddings. When we flew out of Edinburgh there was a group of guys in kilts flying to a football game (soccer). I was on the escalator behind one guy who was going up. I tried very hard to get a peak, but no luck! I think kilts rock!

Kilts are commonplace as generally happening outfits in Scotland, and once you stroll down the line you will see some adult men in long pants, and a few in kilts. they do no longer improve any eyebrows there.

I don't think they're worn as frequently as jeans or anything, but I'm sure you still see them every now & then. You should try wearing a kilt in the US for fun. I will try not to laugh at you.

Most men do not wear a kilt.
However if you chose to wear one with the proper accessories,
(You can go formal or casual)
I doubt if it would cause much of a stir!
Go for it.
Find out what clan you are,
and wear it proud!!!
