To me its like the computer..
Some one asks you here if you like them or not.
How do you truly know someone without interacting with them.
So sure you could say yes i know you as a friend / acquaintance.
but not as a close friend.
I feel it is a little pushy personally.
and i would question as to why they are asking and on what level they are asking. so there is no mixed signal

That is a good question dear. It may be that this someone is afraid of rejection, and couldn't handle the face to face. It could be a cruel joke to see what you would say. Or it could be some nosey someone else is asking to be nosey. If it were me, I would tell that person that I don't like to discuss my personal issues on a cell phone and if you feel comfortable in doing so, meet face to face and get to know each other. It may turn into something, or not. At any rate you at least know who and what you are dealing with. Hope this helps. Nana

Depends on your age. I think that in the awkward teenage stage, it is OK. It is hard at that age, the fear of rejection, that a text message makes it easier. If you are an adult, no way! It would be an insult. What can be OK for a teenager is not acceptable for an adult.

It is probably polite. They may be to shy to ask in person or they may think that you might say no. You could reply by saying ask in person. But then do you like them? Another reply is "I'll never tell."

they are probabaly shy, and i am guessing you are a middle schooler? this is a bit immature, yet rather cute. you can reply back with something like "i'm rather talk with you then text with you, give me a call if you want to talk" they will be more comfortable talking to you when they know that you want to talk 2 them. but if you are someone who is planning on doing this...i would reconsider. its a little tacky, and isn't very personal

seems kind of tacky. how would you know if that is really him or his relative/friend texting you that. At least, if he uses your cell phone # to text you, why can't he just call you. you already live in different cities, so he should wanna hear your sweet voice, anyways. pLus, if he called you, you could've noticed if he was serious or not.

Some people are just shy. It's not polite, but it's understandable.
