The first thing you need to do is take your dog to the vet to make sure he is healthy and get him on a regular regimen for his shots and other preventative medications. Your vet can answer all your questions on how to care for your puppy, including what to feed him and how to potty train him. In the meantime, make sure he has a safe and quiet place he can go to when he wants to get away from the smaller children and sleep. A box or small crate with soft bedding will work as long as he is able to get in and out by himself. Make sure he has some good quality puppy food (Iams or Science Diet are good), as well as fresh water all the time. Get him a few toys to play with such as balls or squeaky toys. Old socks will work until you can get to a pet store. He will probably be scared and timid for a while so make sure he has a safe place he can go until he gets more accustomed to his surroundings. At night, put him in a larger box or crate with a soft toy or a watch wrapped and tied up in a sock. He might whine and cry for awhile, but will eventually settle down. Make sure you take responsibility for him on a daily basis. He will be depending on you to make sure he is taken care of and that he has a happy and healthy life!

Well, really your puppy should've stayed with it's brothers, sisters and mother for at least another 2 - 3 weeks.

You're going to have to moisten your puppies food with either hot water, evaporated milk, goats milk or puppy formula. Shih-tzu puppies this young are not able to eat dry kibble without it being softened for them first. Make sure you're feeding the pup the same food that the breeder fed it and if you choose to switch it over to another food you will have to do it gradually over about a weeks time. You will want to keep the pup confined either in a crate or baby gated in a kitchen or other area that is free of carpet when you are busy and can't keep watch over it (this will make it easier to potty train the pup). For the first couple days take the pup out often (like every 45 min - 1 hr). Also take the pup out every time it wakes from a nap, has been running around playing, within 10 min of eating or drinking anything. Watch for when the pup is walking around sniffing the ground or circling, this could indicate that the pup has to potty. If the pup potties in the house and you catch it in the action, get up tell the pup no and then take it outside, when the pup finishes pottying outside praise it. If the pup does a mistake in the house and you didn't see it do it do not scold the pup just ignore it, move it to another room and clean up the mess. I've heard that it's important not to let the pup see you clean up after it when it messes in the house because it will be more apt to do it again. Never put a puppy's nose in it's mess, the pup does not understand what it did wrong and doesn't know why it's being scolded.

6 weeks is pretty young. You need a good puppy food. I recommend Nutro. You may need to soften it with some warm water for the next couple of weeks. Make sure your puppy has fresh water, Take her out to potty every 30 min to hour that she is awake, especially after eating or playing. This is how I have always done it, and as they get older, they go out less, and hold it better. Be prepared for accidents though, and don't yell or hurt your puppy when it has one. Try to keep it out from under people's feet, as your puppy is very small and could be easily hurt if stepped on, kicked, etc. DON'T give your puppy cows milk. Dogs are lactoce intolerant and it will give it the runs. Make sure your parents get her into the vet for her puppy shots when she is 8 weeks, again at 12 weeks and again at 16 weeks and the rabies at 6 months. Good luck!

Don't let the brothers handle the puppy very much, let the puppy be in a calm place and caress the puppy and let it sit in your lap. It is going to miss its mother and siblings. do not shout at or hurt the puppy

Be sure to take the puppy to the Vet for shots and a check up.

Also, ask the Vet a good food for puppies.

Give the puppy fresh water and food. Do not give the puppy milk or table scraps.

Never hit the puppy or allow anyone else to hit the puppy or even a dog or any animal.

Take the puppy outside frequently to do its business but it will not start to understand house training until about 6 months - their systems are not able to be controlled until around that time.

This is your best friend for many years of your life. Walk the puppy and give it lots of attention and good food and medical care: it's your baby little Daddy.

Honey you have e your work cut out for you.Your new puppy should be fed every 3 hours at least. It should be kept warm at all times and should not be left alone, because it is still very young and might not understand why it is not still with its mom.It will need time to go to the bathroom on newspaper or pads shortly after eating and not be fussed at if it makes mistakes for several months .It will be much like a baby for several months until it's little body grows and matures.Maybe you should ask Santa for a book on shitzu pups and that will give you the extra help that you will need.Good Luck sweety and I hope I have helped you some.

You need to get a crate so that you can begin training your puppy. The crate shouldn't be much bigger than the puppy. You will keep the puppy in the crate to sleep, when you are not home or are unavailable to watch it and take the puppy outside to do his business immediately when you let him out of the crate. You need to take your puppy out to do his business every 1/2 hour except when you are sleeping. Immediately after meals and after playing. You need to take your puppy to the vet for a check up and to see when the vet wants to begin the puppy shots. For your first visit to the vet you want to bring a stool sample so that the vet can see if your pup has worms. Your puppy will probably sleep alot that is normal it is like a baby. Give him lots of love and attention and watch him with your younger brothers that they do not play too rough with him. Good Luck.

why did you get a puppy if you don't know what to do with it? become responsible, feed it, pick up the poop, etc.
