Sometimes I have these awful nightmares. Like sometimes they are about my parents dying. I wake up drenched in sweat and my heart is pounding really fast. (I'm 14 and have a good relationship with my family.) Other times I dream about other stuff like creepy animals chasing me, and other stuff that scares the heck out of me. How can I keep these nightmares from coming? Is there any way I can get rid of them?
And should I tell my parents about my dreams and see if they can help me out? My dreams really make me jittery throughout the day sometimes.

Yes! it would be a good idea to talk it out w/your parents. I think you will find talking and opening up to your folks will help you work through any deep rooted issue or fears that you may have.

I recommend you to avoid any heavy eating before bed. Many people suffer nightmares (if sleeping) during digestion. Avoid also, watching scary or violent movies. Usually that kind of nightmares come from some worries. Are you under pressure at school? or problems at home? If so, try to solve them or speak to your school counselor. Do physical exercises and some relaxation. If you practice any religion or spirituality, try a pray or meditation before to sleep.

As a teen ager I use to have bad dreams and I would stop them by thinking about all the bad dreams or possibilities before I went to sleep. Also we have taught our children to wake themselves up when having a bad dream and to roll over to a different position and say some prayers out loud to God, Jesus and their Guardian Angel. When my new grandson was having bad dreams I made him an Angel pillow. He was 3 and we told him the Angel would make his bad dreams go away and watch over him at night. I made him a quilt with angels on it and told him they were his guardian Angels helpers. He stopped having the bad dreams.

I tell my children when they have nightmares to call on Jesus. Say Jesus name and what ever is bothering you will flee at Jesus name. Ask God to heal your dreams. Talking with your parents is a great idea.
