"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

(It's the best one I've seen so far). Does anyone have a better one?

I love hearing Linus recite that.

I am not Christian, but I think it is a beautiful set of verses.

I have no problem celebrating the birth of a man who taught peace and tolerance. We just need to remember there are other miracles being celebrated this time of year as well!

The true meaning of Christmas is Christ's Mass, A special Church service done on the reported date of Jesus's birth. Wrong time of the year.

The idea that December 25 is Jesus' birthday was popularized by Sextus Julius Africanus in Chronographiai (221 AD), an early reference book for Christians. This identification did not at first inspire feasting or celebration. In 245 AD, the theologian Origen denounced the idea of celebrating the birthday of Jesus "as if he were a king pharaoh." Only sinners, not saints, celebrate their birthdays, Origen contended

No shepherd would have his flock out in winter unless the sheep pen was on fire. It is too cold in winter.

The story is wonderful and full of the promise of peace for all people, this is a good thing.

What people are arguing over these days is Tradition. It has become tradition to have Christmas in December. The reasons that date was chosen was to steal from the Pagans their Winter Festival and bring them under the Christian heel. All the trappings, the tree, the lights, the meal, that was all taken from various pagan winter holy days.

But as I said the story is a wonderful one, too bad folks didn't take it to heart and build a world based on the promise.

December 25th isn't even Christ's birthday!

Christ was 33 and a half when he died in the spring, do the math and you get he was born in the fall.
(see Luke 3:23, began His ministry at 30 and it lasted 3 and a half years)

Just as the bible says in ...

Luke 2:8 "shepherd's watching their flocks by night" this only happens when it's warm enough in Israel, impossible in the wintertime.

Just like most other holidays instituted by the Church of Rome from the middle ages, Christmas is based off of a pagan ritual. The birthday of the "sun god" deis natalis solus invictus "the birthday of the unconquerable sun" which is Decc. 25.

Please friends just look up "roots of Christmas, or pagan roots of Christmas".

I'm not a Jehovah's Witness.

No, it is not because Christmas is not christian. It is pagan. The true meaning to Christmas is the winter solstice and Yule and the pagan birth of the unconquered sun. look up Saturnalia, and other pagan traditions that were celebrated on December 25 way before Jesus was even born.

No, Jesus has nothing to do with Christmas. The true meaning of Christmas is shopping and spending time with family and friends.
