Some above have suggested AA (the most popular method out there) and medication (i.e., Antabuse), but those don't work for everyone. Medication in particular can be dangerous for many people.

You can try Alcoholics Anonymous, but it may not work for you. I know lots of addicts who hated AA, but tried other methods that worked for them. A friend of mine joined a local support group, similar to but not affiliated with AA. Another friend joined a gym! Running three miles a day helped. I know other people who found help through doctors, rehab programs, etc.

Good luck. For immediate assistance, call a local rehab center.

(And please note, while some may say, "It's easy, just stop drinking"... it's NOT that easy. But you probably already know that. Again, good luck.)

First thing you have to do is get sobered up. Then find a good treatment center in your area. Salvation army programs are good. Have an aftercare plan. Go to AA meetings, lead meetings, big book, step meetings. Take what you can use from them. Enjoy the fellowship of other recovering alcoholics. and most of all, DON"T PICK UP A DRINK.

I am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. If you are serious about quiting I can tell you from experience that the only way that works is to go to A.A. If you feel like your life has become unmanageable because of your alcohol use then A.A. is home for you my friend. If you have never been to an A.A. meeting it's a good time to cast asaide any judgements or resevations you may have towards them and get to one as soon as possible. It will save you life. I wish you luck friend.

My brother used to call me at 2:00 a.m. all the time, until I told him "Don't call until you get yourself straighten out".

He went "COLD TURKEY" right after I talked to him. I did not hear from him for 6 months.

I went through Salvation Army in Michigan for Detoxing from alcohol.

Go to AA (not AAA, which is an auto club). There are people there who will help you - meetings are free and open to anyone. Look in your phone book for a number to call - they'll hook you up with a meeting nearby the same day.
