Aloe Vera plant right off the plant itself helped me when I stayed with my dad at the beach, I got the worse sunburn you could possibly imagine so much for the Carribbean..

No, do NOT use lotion or Vaseline, even though you might want to if your skin's peeling. Anything greasy holds in heat. If you must use lotion, use a very light unscented one.
I believe that, in addition to milk and aloe, soaking in oatmeal helps.
Wear some kind of sunscreen next time you go tanning, or don't stay in the bed for so long.

Don't use lotion, use aloe vera gel or burn ointment. Be careful burning in the tanning bed, I got sun poison 2 times from them.

Sunburns of any kind are dangerous. You may not notice it now, but believe me, it will come back to haunt you later in life as sun damaged skin or worse, cancer. I'm there right now.
As far as relief, powdered nonfat milk or a quart of regular low fat milk into a tub of warm water. Spend about a half-hour soaking in it.
Moisturize with a light film of extra virgin cold pressed olive oil.
