Yes, chocolate can kill a cat and it doesn't take all that much. Dark chocolate is more deadly than milk, but animals should not have chocolate of any kind. If your cat has eaten chocolate, you need to call a veterinarian NOW. The ASPCA has an excellent Animal Poison Control Center (www.aspca.org)--you can call them and talk to a veterinary toxicologist 24/7--it will cost you $55. But it's worth it if you suspect your pet has ingested a toxin.

No animal should have chocolate !!! But it takes a lot for an animal to get sick or die from chocolate. Try not to leave any around for the cat to get into and dont feed it to the cat. They dont need any human food at all ( except maybe a little chicken now and then as a treat ) Dry and canned cat food are quite good for them and made for their digestive tracts. Human food is not as easily digestible and can cause damage to their stomachs and intestines. Love your cat and feed it cat food !!!

Yes chocolate is deadly to a cat. So are many plants that you would think to not be harmful. You should consider "cat proofing your home" just like you would "child proof you home for a child". Keep the chocolate closed up in a cupboard. Candy dishes won't do since cats are very creative in obtaining their objective - eating what smells good!!

Chocolate should never be given to any animals! My friend's cat got into her kids Halloween candy and spent 3 days in the vet hospital being treated. Never acted the same afterwards and died a year later. unsure if it was related but was odd since he died at 2 years old.

Chocolate contains chemicals which rarely cause problems for humans, but for cats and other domestic pets, these chemicals can, in rare cases, be deadly.
Chocolate contains the compound theobromine which is a diuretic as well as a cardiac stimulant. This can cause the pet's heart rate to increase or it may cause the heart to beat irregularly, both of which can be dangerous to the animal.

Chocolate is also toxic to cats, even in small amounts, because it contains caffeine and theobromine, which affect the central nervous system and the heart muscle.

Try karob instead, they make dog- and cat-specific 'chocolatey' treats, and those are perfectly fine (I don't recommend them for human consumption, though! Yuck.)

NEVER give chocolate to a cat - it makes their heart go "boom-boom-boom" which can cause them cardiac arrest. There is NO safe ammount that you can give. They don't need chocolate, so I don't know why you are even asking if its OK - unless you plan to kill a cat?

In a myth they say chocolate can kill both but i doubt that seeing as how in some table foot you cant pick off the chocolate so a little bit doesnt hurt them.
