THE SONG WAS WRITTEN BY A MR T.M MALLOY IN 1889 FOR CELTIC,THE BEATLES COVERED IT IN THE 60'S AND STILL PAY CELTIC ROYALTY'S.
ALSO A MR BILL KING WROTE A SONG FOR RANGERS IN THE 1890'S CALLED "SIMPLY THE BEST" WHICH WAS COVERED BY SOME BLACK BIRD IN THE 1970'S.
THE OLD FIRM HAVE HAD 19 NUMBER ONE'S BETWEEN THEM,CELTIC WITH 13 LEAD THEIR PALS WHO HAVE HAD 6 TO DATE.THEY HAVE BOTH REPRESENTED COUNTRYS IN THE EUROVISION CONTEST,CELTIC FOR IRELAND ,RANGERS FOR ENGLAND,CELTIC WON IN 1967,RANGERS ALSO WON IN 1972.

They probably copied the Beatles. Hey Jude was written by Paul McCartney for John Lennon's son, Julian.
Paul wrote this song after John married Yoko. Paul didn't want Julian to feel responsible for this.
The original words were "Hey Jules"

Its quite common for chants to use well known existing tunes. This is just another example of that..the song was around a long time before it became a chant.
And anyway, the Beatles weren't into football very much, apart fron Paul McCartney who was an Everton fan..
