The main thing is to keep baby's diaper area clean and dry. Try to change diapers a little more frequently. My choice for treatment has always been Balmex. Zinc oxide is too difficult to get off the skin.
good luck ~~

Gently and thoroughly clean and dry the area. Put an antibacterial ointment such as neosporin or bacitracin (available over the counter at most drug stores) on the rash. Then cover that antibacterial ointment with some Desitin ointment.

One of the best things you can do for a diaper rash is to clean the area frequently and leave the babies diaper off for as long as you possibly can. Put the child in a safe area like a play yard with a soft flooring (but of course something that could be thrown in the wash if it gets soiled) and let him/her play without their diaper.

Air (oxygen) is one of the best healers for diaper rash.

Remember to change the babies diapers frequently especially during this period.

If it does not improve or gets worse, please call your pediatrician. Diaper rash can lead to staph infection and that is NOT a good thing.

good luck.

My kids all have really sensitive skin and they constantly broke out in diaper rash because of it. Some of the tricks I learned were

1.) Do not ever put creams like Desitin on a rash once it's already begun, those are really best used as a preventative measure only because they can actually make a rash worse because it dries out the skin....which leads me to....

2.) Diaper rashes are caused and irritated by dry skin so lots of bath time will help.

3.) Air dry!! Don't ever put a diaper back on the baby until his/her lil hiney is completely dry, using hair dryers on a cool setting helps too!

5.) If at all possible, allow your child some naked time to just let it air out. Just keep a close eye so they don't dirty themselves!

6.) In the future, use some cornstarch (NOT baby powder because that is bad for their lungs) in the diaper at bedtime and naptime, it will help keep the rash from reoccurring.

7.) If the rash is really painful put some neosporin on it and top that with aquaphor or vaseline at every diaper change to help soothe and heal.

Oh and if it doesn't improve in a couple of days or gets worse, you may want to contact your child's doctor because severe rashes can be a symptom of other things like strep in young infants.

Wash area with a gentle soap and dry. Do not apply any type of scented baby lotion. Air the booty out as much as possible. You can apply cornstarch to the area or buy a diaper rash cream. Keep area clean and dry. Sometimes the scented baby wipes can also irritate the rash. If the baby is constantly getting diaper rash you might want to take the baby off of milk and start giving soy milk. My son got constant diarrhea, it looked like curdled milk in his diaper. It was caused by allergies to cows milk. Soy milk made everything better. The number one cause of allergies in children is cows milk!

You can use desitin every time you change the diaper. Leave the baby bottom to the air after you give it a bath. Sometimes a baby gets a diaper rash when he is teething.

A&D Ointment. It stinks, but works great. My grandmother used to brown flour in the oven to cure diaper rash for her 7 children. It sounds crazy, but my friend's pediatrician told her the same thing a few years back for my friend's baby.

I will continue to stick by A&D, much less trouble.

Desetin ointment is the best! It has codliver oil and zinc in it; and it will stay on a soothe the baby's bottom for a long time. You might want to try switching brands of diapers also. Hope this helps your little one; Godloveya and all Mamas.

I go with the gals who said Cornstarch baby powder - works better than the creams. Really dries out the rash in no time. The creams just keep it moist.

Stop wearing diapers and wear underwear like a real adult!

Actually, a product called Aquaphor is GREAT for fixing the problem! Desitin is also a good product, but Aquaphor is much better.

Keep the baby's bottom clean and dry. Don't use soap, plain clear water to wash until it is healed.
I used Desitin on my baby's behinds and it worked well.

A home remedy that works is to gently apply honey to the rash. Yes, honey, make sure it's raw honey. It helps promote healing, honest.
