The kids and I were watching the food network tonight and we came up with this question. Hope there is someone out there that can answer it.

White clothes always project a sense of purity, cleanliness. It's only natural that chefs and doctors would want to wear white for the sake of their customers.

Just a tradition, but it is a reassuring one. Someone wearing a white jacket is going to put on a clean one every day. Someone wearing a denim jacket may try to get an extra day out of it, and I'd rather the chef who was handling my food erred on the side of cleanliness.

It's a tradition, like doctors. They don't wear white in every country. You could also say it's so that they can easily see what food they spill on them.
