Ahh, Bright Star! It has been so long. Nice little joke, there are too few bolts of humour in this dreary place. But, at the risk of seeming literal, I actually did have a ladder stolen about 6 months ago. From a locked greenhouse. It was 14 feet long and nobody nearby saw anything! But there was one young lad who seemed a bit suspicious, so I rung the truth out of him.

well it's like this, i was working in the lab late last night, when i heared an almighty crash, bang wop, i looked out the window and had a plop, when i saw just how far i had to drop, so i called out, i called out for help, to get me out, to get me out of here, then along came a man with long dark hair, he gazed up at me and gave me a stare, and shouted wait just there and I'll be there. he went on his way and i cried out please don't leave me here. before long he returned with a crash and a bang, he held up a ladder, and my heart went pang, he got me out and we soon were wed so sorry to say we kept your ladder as a souvernier

Dear Bellatrix--I hope he/she is reading your question and goes right out to fetch it. Further steps may have to be taken if it doesn't appear by morning. Good luck.

It would have been funnier as:
To the person whose ladder I stole...
Give me $100 and your ladder will be returned...
If you do not comply, further steps will be taken...

I wish I could, but my mom as you know borrowed it first, then lent it to John the Fireman down the street to save that cat in the tree.
Go see John.
