I just recently heard of pinch collars, but they look mean. I have a pom a poo, so he is not very big (med size) however he pulls constantly and he pulls hard enough to jerk his neck. My arm hurts too but I am more concerned about his little neck.

I snap the leash on the dog just as everyone else does but then I add a little routing change. from the collar, run the leash down the dogs back hold it in place with one hand near the tail. With the other hand, wrap the leash around the dogs belly and cross over the private parts. Come up the other side and cross under the leash down the dogs back. Then hold the handle of the leash. I've never had a dog pull with this arrangement.

Don't worry about his neck... If he's more than 15 pounds, he'll be fine (unless he starts weezing). Just give the dog a sharp jerk when he does something wrong, but he won't just get it after two walks, it will take a while. Switch arms so you don't constantly stress the same one. Also, puppy school works wonders on dogs, check it out at your local petsmart or something.

I have a 4 month old Bichonpoo she currently weighs 5 lbs. What was told to me and worked was that when she would pull I would stop walking. So she learned that when she pulled the walk stopped. Because I stopped she would have to stop once she stopped I would start walking again. If she pulled I would stop again. I would only start walking when she stopped. Dogs are pretty smart and she learned quickly that when she was pulling we weren't walking. Now she walks next to me with no problem.

Get a pincher collar. You can adjust the links. A quick tug will pinch his neck and make him listen.

Before expecting your dog to calmly walk beside you on leash, train her to be calm when you are putting her collar and leash on!
