Hi, I usually eat my grains everyday. LOL. Just kidding, I know what your talking about. My daughter has migraines, she is also taking Topamax. It wasn't working for he to well, so the doctor increased her dosage. I know migraines are a pain... go back to your doctor and let him know your medication isn't helping. If you are very dissatified with your doctor, ask your primary phsycian to refer your to another specialist. Other things could be affecting your memory as well. Chronic pain can lead to depression as well. Take to your doctor about this as well. The are some newer antidepressants that can help with chronic pain also. Good luck.

MIGRAINES....are extremly unfortunate but some people have to live with them. There are a few things you can do, one...keep a food diary, some migraines are caused from food. Also there are many different kinds of migraines, preventatives do not work for some, there is a good medication on the market that you take as soon as your migraine starts...it's called AMERGE. Works 85% of the time, better then nothing. Make sure your get enough sleep that's usually a huge trigger, avoid to much proccessed food and drink tons of water daily. Also keep in mind that if you take pain relievers that your weight is a significant factor as too how effective they are. The dosages on the bottles are for about 125 lbs. Do lots of research on the net, there is lots of good info out there. Good luck.

I am a nurse and many of the patient's that my doctor sees loves Topamax but some dont tolerate it. That might not be the one for you. There are other preventive medications such as Propranolol, Fluoxetine (Prozac), etc. Sometimes they also try Triptans which is migraine medication such as Axert, Relpax, Maxalt, etc. These are used like this: you take one at the onset of the ora or when you know one is coming on and if you still have the migraine in 2 - 3 hours you take a 2nd but no more than that a day. Maybe you should ask about something like that. Alot of people also use nose sprays such as Imitrex, Migranal, etc. These I think work well also.
I would think though that your Neurologist would be managing your migraines more than your primary care physician - that is probably why you were referred to Neurology as that is his specialty!!

Non-Medication Methods for Preventing Migraines
A number of methods for reducing headaches do not involve pharmaceuticals. These include:
Diet: Avoiding any dietary triggers is essential. Keeping a regular meal schedule is also important, even on weekends and holidays. Missing meals can be a trigger for some migraine sufferers. Some doctors recommend a diet low in tyramine-containing foods. These include chocolate, alcoholic beverages, processed meats, cultured dairy products, monosodium glutamate (MSG) and peanuts, for example.
Exercise: As a stress reliever and general promoter of health, exercise is encouraged.
Sleep: Keep a regular sleep schedule. Get enough sleep but avoid oversleeping.
Stress Reduction: Stress is a risk factor for most headaches. Biofeedback and relaxation methods such as breathing techniques can reduce the effects of stress on headaches. For more on relaxation techniques, see Relaxation.

Migraines make you light-sensitive (and may even be triggered by light) so wear sunglasses when outdoors! Keep your blinds at least 3/4 shut all the time and try to keep the light inside your house to a minimum but enough to stay safe.
Try to remember where you are when most your migraines "kick in" what are you doing, where are you, is there a link? Do you have certain triggers? What about allergies? Get checked out and try to stay away from bright lights.
Good luck!

Screw docs all they do is put all these chemicals in your body which then turn your body into wacky mode.
I would try working out get into a relaxing youga routine or do some cardio to get your body pumping and energized.
Massage also helps alot!! I have had many clients that come on a regular basis and have stopped having migraines, you should try anything than listening to some doc who can't even speak enough English to diagnose you correctly!!

Migraine isn't just a headache.. it is actually labeled Migraine Syndrome.. meaning many symptoms..emesis being only one of them. The last resort for most sufferers is the doctor of Chiropractic.. Is something they see and treat frequently.
At your tender years, the response should be dramatic.

Get a different doctor. And watch lots of T.V. Seriously you don't think when you watch T.V. so your brain can relax. And drink some water or apple juice. Something not to heavy like soda or choclate milk. Something light.

get a different doctor
in the mean time, find out what your migraine trigger is..maybe hormones (if they seem to turn up at that time of month) maybe food additives. mine used to be caused by MSG or dried dairy products in conjunction with my periods- I avoided MSG and dried dairy (like cheese stuff on chips) try a couple of aspirin and have some caffeine with it, coffee or tea, the caffeine boosts the aspirin's effects. take it when you first feel it. lay down in a dark cool quiet room, with a cool cloth on your forehead.
