I don't want to spend a bunch of money and I live in a pretty rural area so processing may be a factor. Thanks for any advice.

Though expensive, buy or rent a high definition video camera. Hi-def video converts to film. This way you don't need to spend lots of money on film and development. All your editing can be digital with hi def video. When you have a completely edited hi def video, you can then convert it to film in one pass. Good Luck.

Super 8 is the best way to start off, but it requires considerable effort to find the equipment, film and a place for processing. Your best bet may be digital video. There's a place called Rafik in NYC that may be of help. When I was in film school over 15 years ago our film was processed in Boston. I think the place was called Super 8 Sound or something like that. They should both have websites.

It comes down to what you can aford and how long the movie is going to be. A couple seconds on 90 mm can cost you a 100.00 and up! Video may be more in your buget ? Or if super 8(or 9) is still around. I think they offer more opections on sound dubbing?
