Frontline Plus - one size fits all, regardless of weight - you don't need to weigh your cat. It is applied to the cat's skin - not the fur - so be sure to have someone hold the cat while you get the fur parted. People sometimes just put it on the back of the cat's head and it doesn't work that way. The Frontline applicator is easier to use than the Advantage, and, quite frankly, I found a flea on one of my cats that was treated with Advantage this fall.
Capstar works on the fleas that are on your cat, Frontline Plus kills fleas, flea eggs and larva in the environment and on your cat. If you saw one flea on your cat, I promise you there are more in your carpet. If it was a "giant" one, it was probably a female flea with an egg sack. Those babies lay hundreds of eggs at a time. You want to get the Frontline Plus.

Not that likely; a flea would have to make it in on your/visitors clothes or a visiting dog or something. My cats are indoor only, I have never put any of that toxic chemical stuff on them, and they have never ever had a flea.

Advantage and Frontline. Both go by weight so unless you know the exact weight of your cat, it's best to get it from your vet the first time at least. Advantage works in as little as 8 hours and continues working for 30 days. Good luck!
Here's links to info on both products:

***Advantage and Advantix are two different products, never used Advantix.

Go to the vet and get a perscription. DO NOT use Harts or any store bought brand. They do NOT work and could cause potential health problems. I'm with a cat rescue and we put store bought stuff on two of our older kittens and about 2 hours later we hade to rush them the the vets. They were seizing and almost died.

Ask your vet for a pill called Capstar. You should also use a flea comb and treat your house with either a spray or powder bought from pet stores as well.
