my guy was over for thanksgiving and all was going well. I called my mom to wish her a happy thanksgiving... I had her on speaker so she could talk to my daughter. When she was done talking we was saying goodbyes and she yelled out "I love you -----" to my guy. I was shocked & took the phone off speaker quick and got her off the phone. He heard what she had said and had a weird look on his face, I just laughed and said she was crazy. In about 20 minutes he left to go home. My mom has only met him once and for only 1 1/2 hours at that. I would freak if someone's mom done that to me & I think it did freak him out. What should I do about it? or is there anything I could do? how would you handle the situation?

ok I know my mom does not WANT him or LOVE him like that. We've only been dating a month & 1/2... but he seemed weirded out she said that & didn't know him

Play it down, some mothers push their daughters into relationships and maybe your mom thought because he was at your place for Thanksgiving that the relationship is more than what you both want it to be. Next time you see him just tell him your mom does that to you all the time to pressure you into forming a long term relationship. Bye the way I find it a bit odd that your guy would take it so seriously, so he must be leary of committment to a certain extent. Play the whole situation down and for your own sake ease off on the guy for a while if he really likes you he'll come around. I feel badly for you though, it must have been embarassing. One other thing I'd have a chat with your mom and ask her to please never to put you in that position again. Just tell her that you'll let her know when she's allowed to tell someone your dating that she loves him, sounds as if she was inviting him to be the "SON IN LAW" and he probably freaked. Good luck

Call your mom and get the real story.
She may have just been joking around and didn't get a chance to explain herself before you hung up on her.
Or she could have just said it to let him know that she approved of him being in the family.
Call her and find out. If she was being serious about it, let her know that you thought it was inappropriate and she needs to appologize to your boyfriend for making him feel uncomfortable.
If you don't find out and talk to her about it, it will make things really awkward the next time the 3 of you are in the same room.

She probably just meant that she loved him as a nice son-in-law or something like that. since she wasn't in the house, it's hard to tell. but if she would have been following him all over the house or flat out made a move on him or tried to get him in her bedroom, then she meant it in a more sexual way then i would have dumped him but nothing could ever make me stop talking to my mother. i mean you may love him, but if your mother does something like that, just sit down and talk to her and ask her why. if you got a mother who you don't get along with, then that's another situation. i just suggest never hit her cuz she brought you in this world. it depends on how her voice sounded when she said it. i mean you see it on Maury all the time mom's sleeping with their daughter's boyfriends...don't act like they do. take a different approach, lol.

This time of year when you think about the rest of the world amagine being anywhere else but where you are at, is life really that bad, hard or terrible?

I would ask her if she meant it as just a gesture. Or did she really mean what she said? I think you should be very curious I know I would be. So just talk to her on the phone in private. And just ask her what you want in a calm cool manner.

I think your overreacting. She was probably saying it in a joking manner. He probably didn't know how to take it. I say that to my mother and father in law when my husband is talking to them on the phone. Your mother probably knew he was there and she was just playing around.
Now if she came up to him, put her arms around him, squeezed his but and said in a very sensual way... I love you...then you have something to worry about.

first of all calm down.I'm sure she did not mean it in a way like being in love with him.I think all she was trying to do is make him feel welcome and wanted. I tell most all my sons and daughters friends I love them in a way that does not offend them.That's what this world needs more of kind loving people. I think If you took it any other way than that you should examine your life
