I got mine pierced at an angle just in case I ever had a job that didn't accept piercings. The first 3 days is when yr tongue might be swollen (mine didn't swell but of everyone I know that has gotten it, theirs has, I guess I got lucky) you won't be able to eat hard foods til the 4th day you've had it. Yr not supposed to change the ring until after 10-14 days and I don't suggest doing it before. Unless you get some time off from the bank it's probably going to be very noticeable because of swelling and maybe lisping when talking. There are tongue retainers and flat ones that you can put it but only after it heals. Maybe you should wait. I have had mine pierced for a little over 4 years now but I don't think it's worth losing a job over. Good luck! â¥

When I had my tongue pierced it was a good week that I was swollen and lived off of liquids. Oral piercings are one of the quickest piercings to heal however it's suggested not to change the initial jewelry for at least 6-8 weeks. Also, many piercers will not use any other type of jewelry other than surgical stainless steal during the healing period. Acrylic or plastic pieces harbour bacteria which can easily cause an infection in a new piercing.
The initial jewelry is also much larger than you would normally use. This is to accommodate the swelling so yes, you may talk a little funny at first and be tempted to play with the jewelry. Also, with the larger jewelry it tends to clang a lot on your teeth.
After the healing period you can change the jewelry to whatever you want. As someone else said there is flesh colored or see through beads as well as retainers or "hide-its" you can buy which isn't as noticeable on first glance. I doubt anyone would be staring at your mouth to see that your tongue is actually pierced however when you laugh, yawn etc the piercing is completely exposed. With the clear beads you are still able to see the post that is screwed inside of it.
In my honest opinion I doubt you'll be able to get through the healing period without it being noticed unless you cover your mouth when you talk or just not speak at all.
Keep in mind, you may be tempted to change the jewelry prematurely. Doing this can cause serious problems with your piercing. If you are unable to allow the piercing the full amount of time to heal properly than it's best to wait until you can.

Here let me answer your question I don't know how long they take to heel but they are noticeable when you talk and you talk funny afterward. And sweetie its not tongue piercing its tongue punching they put you re tongue on a metal anvil and press down a circular piece of metal and there you have a little piece of tongue as a souvenir*LOL* but seriously it is tongue punching think about it and see what the rules are first

You can buy flesh colored barbells. It takes about 2 weeks to completely heal. For the first couple of days you talk funny.

Get it done when you have vacation time. I have one and it isn't noticeable unless I sit there and play with it. I work in a pharmacy and I am student teaching special education and nobody has noticed it.

you talk funny after a piercing, so yes, they will notice. it can be very dangerous to pierce the tongue. there is a nerve that runs through it, and it the piercer hits it, it will kill you. if you must pierce something, pierce your belly button. that way you can hide it.
