We have this hospital in our small town and nobody trusts them but ppl still go there because it is closer then all the others... the next closest one is 50 miles away. but anyways, every time we go there someth9ing doesnt seem right. my step moms cousin was having an asthma attack and they gave him the wrong meds and he died. my niece was 2 and they took her there and they said she was fine and took her home. her parents didnt seem it was right and took her to another hospital and they said she was so dehydrated and sick she was almost dead. and they just sent my friend home with a 108.9 fever last night. this is just my friends and family. what about every one else out there that goes to this hospital. i also heard that it was mainly run by interns or docs that just got out of school. and there were only a couple of real docs. do you think they should be closed down before something bad happens to some one else?

If there are so many issues with this hospital, they I'm sure that they are already being investigated if your information is accurate. They will review the charts and see if their was any negligence or malpractice on the part of the hospital employees. If not, then drive the 50 miles if you don't like it.

BTW, interns are physicians and have their medical licenses. Most hospitals have interns woking in them. They typically are the people you see in the ER and Urgent Care Centers.

I wish I could decide if this was serious or not. I really am having a hard time believing it is or if it is that your information is correct. I've been a nurse for 20 years and fully believe that all doctors and nurses are capable of making mistakes. But for the things you talk about to all happen in one place nobody there could be medical personnel.
Anyway the item you talk about that makes me really believe this is a joke is the friend with the temp of 108.9 who got sent home because no offense but a temp that high they would be going home to the lord and no where else. It would be highly unlikely even a child could survive a temp this high without severe brain damage and they can tolerate much higher temps than your friend.
The personnel you refer to as interns or right out of school could be a number of things. An intern usually is someone who has finished medical school and taken part two of their boards. They usually start in July and at the end of the year they may practice general medicine or continue on a specialty residency. Most of the time this term is now not used and they are all called residents. Either way these are licensed doctors who can work only under the supervision of another physician, they do recieve a salary during this time. Medical students have not taken boards yet because they are still in general medical school. They are not paid.
I hope this answers some of your questions.

Your stories are so twisted, someone doesn't have a 108.9 fever and get sent home. Fevers don't generally go above 105 and brain damage begins at 107, your friend would be dead at 109 temperature. Even the most incompetent doctor would recognize that. Doctors that just graduated and have passed their boards are REAL doctors and allowed to practice medicine on their own. And by law interns can't practice without being observed by an attending doctor. You obviously have other options because you took your niece to another hospital, so if you don't like the treatment then go to other hospital! You are the one that is obviously exagerating or flat out lying about the treatment that this hospital is providing its patients.

A Fever of 108.9, Is Highly Questionable, BTW, an Intern is a Real Doctor, Without a Great Deal of Experience of a Number of Diseases, but a Great Deal of New Knowledge About Diseases. This Might Come In Very Valuable for Many Things, but Not With Others, It would Be Nice to Have Both.

Even if they are doctors recently out of school, they should be properly trained. The interns are going to be at every hospital, it is just a matter of the supervision they are given to avoid mistakes. It sounds like these could be avoidable mistakes but it could also be coincidence that this happened to your friends and perhaps they are isolated incidents. Closing it would be dangerous...what if someone was seriously injured 50 miles away from a hospital? Especially if no paramedics are in the town. I would just speak with the hospital and demand more attention to detail, maybe speak with the director. If all else fails, try to raise funds in the community to donate to the hospital to fund more doctors on staff to supervise, maybe hire new doctors, etc. Good luck!

No. The question asker's mouth should be. Liars always get caught when they say too much. You said too much.

What I hear is a bunch of whining & no action. If all of this is true, they would have been investigated. They would have been sued. You lied about your 2 year old niece. Nobody survives a temperature anywhere near that high.

I often talk on here about critical thinking. Here is an excellent case where a person with an agenda plays on peoples' feelings to rattle their judgment & promote their agenda. Your hearts are in the right place.

These incidents you described should DEFiNITELY be investigated. You can notify your state health dept and go thru the channels until you may reach someone that can direct you in the right way. Also, as far as a person dying as a result of being given the wrong meds this is also a legal issue in which the hospital, nurse and/or doctor would be liable for their actions.

You should definatley try and get the hospital closed down, or at least try and get some better staff. You should talk with some of your city or state officials and see if they can do anything. In the meantime, you should encourage other citizens to contact officials as well so that some attention is brought to this matter. Good luck!

One good way to initiate change is for each individual to contact their insurance carrier. Once several complaints are received the insurance company will begin to investigate and may even refuse to negotiate future contracts until changes are made.
