Paul, I usually don't answer this type of question. But lately I have been questioning my belief quite a bit. I don't think it is a bad thing to examine what you believe, but I was also looking for answers and wanted to find the right place to do it.

Catholicism is easy to attack. It is easy for fundamentalists and for Darwinists. I think God is in Catholicism. I know my fundamentalist brothers would disagree and the atheists who spend their time trying to make you as miserable and dumb as they are would also.

Some of the other answers are better. If you are unhappy with your church but you believe in God and want to be with other believers then try another religion. You aren't going to hell over the choice I believe.

Christianity takes a beating on Q&A and in the world also. Don't be embarassed to stand up for God.

GEEEE. Ok, the Baptist are at it again. If your religion fits you and it is Christian then practice it. Catholics go to many different places according to their religion. The Catholic religion has the basis of Saint Peter "And upon this rock I will build my Church" I believe that the rituals are beauty but you need time to absorb the meaning and the ritual. The Mass is the Last Supper; Easter and Christmas are very special in the Catholic religion.
There are several religions and cults that believe that Catholics are not saved or deserve heaven. I went to the Baptist Church services and they bash Catholics with a vengence. I had to quit going because it did not agree with my other beliefs. To each his own....

That depends. Originally the Catholic church was good, wholesome, and quite godly. Overtime, however, it became quite corrupt and idolatrous. God looks at the heart of the individual person. He knows the secrets of your soul and nothing in hidden from him. You could be sitting in a Catholic church and be as evil as can be, or you could be sincere and live a godly life as well. I highly recommend that you begin by knowing why you believe what you believe. The question is: how does your personal life compare to what the Bible says? If you have no idea, why not find out? Get yourself a small Bible, nothing fancy, and begin reading it. Go to the New Testament and begin in the book of John which tells you about God's plan for you life today. The Bible says that no one comes to the father except through Jesus Christ. He paid the price for our sins and so he is the door to God. Prayer is also key. A continuous relationship with God is what makes you acceptable in his sight.
Go ahead. Pray today and ask Jesus to come into your heart. Wake up tomorrow and go to church. Get yourself a bible and begin reading a page per day. Before you know it you will be hooked. God has a plan for your life today. Don't get caught dead without Jesus. It's hell out there.
Sincerely,
Mr. M on "going to hell."

Catholics can go to hell if they fail to keep the presence of God in their soul, and so can everyone else.

If you're Catholic and you don't yet undertand that the Catholic Church is the only church that was founded personally by Jesus Christ, the only church that was given the authority to bind and loose in heaven and on earth, the only church that was given the authority to forgive sins, and make Jesus Christ truly present on the altar at Mass, and the only church that has God's own promise to bless it and keep it until the end of the age, than you need to go back and study your catechism.

And who has told you that there is a correct or wrong religion? It is more important to be a good person no matter what religion you may have. I dont have a religion at all but know I am a decent person so have no fears about anything once I am dead and gone, should there turn out to be a hell or a heaven.

Jesus said" you will know them by their fruits ". I believe he was talking about false prophets at the time. How ever, I think the logic still applies

If you look at a church, and you say' Gee, they look like nice people, look at all the good they've done. I feel comfortable around them " and some where in there, the message of accepting Jesus and following God's will ( from a Christians PoV) then it's the right religion.

You won't go to hell for being Catholic. you go to Hell for no following Jesus.

Which faith is the splendid faith? that would be the million dollar question. the unhappy factor is that each and each faith claims to be splendid and that the different religions are incorrect. To be trustworthy you do no longer desire a faith for example peace, love, team spirit, or compassion. Righteousness on the different hand is open to interpretation from many distinctive factors of view.

God sent Jesus to save us from sin. If You are trusting in Him it doesn't matter where you worship or how you worship. Jesus was around a lot longer than the Catholic church.. Just hold to Him and don't worry about what people say. You can worship anywhere as long as it's the Father, the Son ,and the Holy Spirit that you worship you are fine.... Jim

There is no correct religion. You just have to decide if you believe in God or not. The person or people who told you that are out of their minds. Personally I am an atheist- I don't believe in God- but I don't have problems with people who do. You can always believe your way, and don't be ashamed, and don't listen to people who say such things.
