Dogs will have a habit of eating a variety of things...why ask why? They just do..
I had a dog that would dig up and eat worms! Another dog ate cow fecses and one dog even ate his own fecses! Its like why some kids eat paste or eat sand or dirt...I don't know but its pretty common for people and animals to want to eat things that aren't officially "food". go figure...mental instability or acquired taste?

It's normal for any dog...they just love it. =( There is a product you can buy, I think it's either powder to be added to the dog's food or pill form, that will make it taste bad and they're not supposed to eat it afterwards. I have never used it as I use a covered litter box so they can't raid it, so I don't know if you would have to use it for the rest of your dog's life or if they'll quit after awhile. GL though, however you deal with it.

It's because of a missing enzyme. You need to go to the vet and get a few packets of powder to mix in the CATS food ( NOT the dogs ) ...it will make the cats' feces, unpalatable to the dog. It should only take a few days.

my 13 yr old blue heeler loves to eat chicken fecses aswell... There must be nutrients or something that dogs love to eat.

All dogs do. My dogs used to do that ALL the time until we blocked the litterbox room from them.

they do it and it's foul. keep them away from poop. i have no idea why they do it though.....
