My cockatiel will not try anything other than seeds. I'll try feeding him fruits and vegetables and he will not try them-I'll even leave some in his cage for him to eat at his own and he still won't try them. How can I get my cockatiel to eat his veggies? Recipes will help.

Also:
I'll buy him a new toy every now and then. He doesn't play with his old toys and new toys he won't touch. How can I get him interested in his toys? He just won't get near them and his toys are just rotting there.

Yep, I'm with Jenni.
Sounds like your bird is bored.
My birds like old rock and hip-hop.
Bur music is definately something that you want to do for your bird. Try different kinds to see what he likes best.
Get inventive.
I have a mini macaw so I gave him a roll of toilet paper on a rope and attached it so it hangs down like it should and he loves to tear it up. For a littler bird maybe you could take the wee bit last of the roll and give him the cardboard inside with a little paper left on.

Dont buy him any toys until he starts playing with them. It may take a while for him to get into eating fruits and vegetables, just keep on trying and one day he will likely eat them. Try giving him rice, majority of cockatiels that i saw eat cooked rice.

My cockatiels were the same way.. Funny when I was eating they would fly down to my plate and eat what was on my plate. I finally just started making them a plate with veggies, crackers, etc so they would stay out of mine. Didnt really want to eat after a bird walked around on it. haha good luck.
As for the toys they would eventually play with them after they got used to them I guess.

I think he's lonely! Get him a mate. Also, try millet. Cockatiels go nuts for it! My 3 'tiels don't like veggies either, so I wouldn't worry about it. Also, some 'tiels just don't like toys. If that's the case, can you let him fly around safely so he atleast gets to experince something interesting? Also, try playing classical music. They love it. Oh, and tons of ladders and perches, maybe even a swing.

Here is how you get him to eat fruits and vegetables: take away his water for 2 hours. Then put in some wet fruit or vegetables. He will be thirsty, so he'll nibble the wet food, and once he's tried it, he'll like it. After that you shouldn't have to take out the water dish.
As for toys, some birds just don't seem that interested.

I have two cockatiels at home, and they are free flight throughout the house. My birds fly down from their open aquarium, and eat dinner with my family every night. My birds enjoy pasta, bread, lettuce, and pancakes the most. Also, when we just had one bird, she was lonely, and was acting funny, so we got her a mate. Her mate is annoying, and sings songs at midnight, but they're happy, so we dont mind that much.
