I read that it is a reaction of your body at the bite site. It has something to do with a secretion injected to help suck out blood.

This is an allergy. There slavia is slightly poisonous to humans, although they could never inject enough to kill you, your body has to react in order to fight the foreign stuff the mosiquito injects into your body to prevent the blood from clogging.

mosquitoes inject an anti-coagulant into you so they can suck out your blood easier. You are reacting to the anti-coagulant. That's why mosquito bites itch so much.
