canker sores are viral so unfortunately there is no cure-and yes they hurt terribly ( i get them on occasion)

stress usually brings these on and in some people-poor hygiene can as well.....

to treat them:

try using anbesol liquid-apply with a q-tip directly to the sore itself-this will help numb it for a while and relieve the pain

keep your mouth as clean as possible-flossing and brushing after eating anything. if u are unable to brush or floss-rinse your mouth out really good with warm water.

i found that taking ibuprofen around the clock worked great for stopping the pain. take 200-400mg every 6 hours but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours

avoid eating or drinking things that are too acidic ( fruits, orange juice, etc) or anything spicy-these will irritate the sore and make it hurt worse....

expect them to last about 10-14 days

UGHH! I hate canker sores! Try rinsing with salt water frequently. It might take a few days but its worth it. Or even try baking soda =)

If you're talking about a canker sore, put a Rolaid or Tum on it. If you're talking about a cold sore, ask the doctor.

salt water rinses are the only thing you can really do to help them resolve quicker. Years ago it was said that Lysine taken a couple of times a day can prevent them. It's a dietary supplement. Try ambesol for the pain with tylenol. Good luck...they're miserable :(

I got one once, the toothbrush slipped while I was brusing and I smacked it into my gum.

I rinsed with Listerine and with peroxide water. That seemed to kill the infection quicker, rather than just numbing the pain with ambesol or oragel. Plus, the peroxide helps whiten your teeth!

it sounds like it could be herpes. go get it checked out. i've gotten canker sores before and never like that. if there are any fluids coming out of it, stop eating anything spicy, acidic or with citrus. go get it checked out now!

rinse with salt water or actually rub a little bit of salt on it. It will burn like hell for a minute but will help a lot.

This is kind of off topic, but so you don't have to face canker sores again, eat more foods with vitamin c, and eat more fruits, it helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! trust me.

Just leave the one on your gum be and don't treat it with anything. It will go away quicker.

Treat the one on your lip with Abreva.
