Turkey has the distinction of being part of Europe and Asia. Istanbul is actually in both continents. There is the Bosphurus which is a small division of water which seperates the two. Turkey is a beautiful country and all the times I have been in Istanbul have been fantastic.

Part of Turkey is in Europe (bordering Greece and Bulgaria). The greater part is in Anatolia which is technically Asia.
As far as football is concerned, Turkey is in Europe, its teams take part in both Champions' League and UEFA contests.
It also takes part in the Eurovision Song Contest which it has both won and hosted.
It is hoping to join the European Union, which, if successful, would make it truly part of Europe.

So you can see that the BBC considers it to be in Europe!!
