Sweetheart, numbing cream isn't going to do much for you.

Sorry.

Is it the pain that caused you to faint or the thought of the needle?

If it was the needle, then put your mind at ease! Tattoo needles are nothing like regular scary hospital needles! They're tiny and attached to a buzzing machine that the tattoo artist will use to draw on you - it isn't like he'll be visible injecting you with ink.

I don't know about numbing cream, but do NOT take asprin before you get a tattoo done. I thins your blood and can make you bleed like mad, which will mess up the tattoo. You can take a non-asprin painkiller, but be sure to talk to your artist first. He can also suggest a tattoo-compatible numbing cream if you really think you'll need it.

However, the pain is temporary. The tattoo is forever. It's worth it to endure a little discomfort! Most people I've talked to have said that getting a tattoo feels like being scratched by a cat, and it isn't all that bad, especially at first. If you're getting something large/complicated you could be pretty miserable by the end of it, but the pain is very different than getting pierced! It's a lot less intense, but lasts longer.

It depends on where you are getting the tattoo. It feels like someone scratching you with their fingernails, and a kind of burning sensation.

The first tattoo I ever got was on my lower back, and it REALLY hurt. It wasn't the type of pain that would make you cry, but it made my eyes water. I felt like I was going to faint, and they had to lay me down to finish the tattoo.

The neck has been the worst place I have ever been tattooed.

The chest area didnt hurt very bad at all, and neither did the forehead, or upper back.

You can get them to tattoo you without ink first, so you can see if you would be able to stand the pain. I have used emla cream on a tattoo, and I was unable to feel much pain, mostly the vibration.
While I was getting tattooed one day, there was a guy that passed out in the other room. If you feel like youre going to get sick, or you start feeling dizzy, tell them right away. If you dont, it will only get worse.

I am currently getting my back tattooed in sessions, and every hour or so, I need them to stop for a few minutes, and they have no problem with it. I am scared to death of needles, but not watching helps a lot.

Yes, people have fainted from the pain. And some, like my husband, fall asleep.

If you're that sensitive to pain, you really shouldn't get tattooed. I have 2 and they did hurt, but I liked the pain. If you can't tolerate the thought of a part of your skin being scratched in the same area over and over and over again until its raw and bleeding, its a bad idea. The numbing cream is for sissies and in my opinion, if you want a tattoo that badly, deal with the pain or don't get one at all. Its part of the overall experience and should be embraced.

I would actually recommend you don't get a tattoo.

Unless it really means something to you.

This isn't one of those "You'll regret it later" answers. Why I said what I said is because if you are that worried about needles, and want to use a numbing cream, then it's not worth the stress.

I'm scared of needle as well, though not to the point of passing out, and while I have tattoos and piercing, I can't imagine the stress it would cause my body, if I stressed out to the point of passing out, just for the sake of a tattoo.

and FYI: Alot of artist out there will refuse tattooing you if you use that cream. One of my tattoo artist's motto was "No pain, no stain."

I'm not much of a needle fan either but when I got my tattoo it didn't hurt. The area went numb fast and it became more aggravating then anything because they had to continue going over the same part. If you think that you're going to faint, then maybe tattoos are not for you. I saw a lady pass out before after getting one on her lower back.

There are big burly guys that faint so we keep amilnitrate (smelling salts) on hand. It usually occurs on a large Tat with no rest period or the underside of the arms which really hurts.
The larger Tats actually hurt less overall because the area you are working on numbs the ajacent area somewhat.
Yes, it hurts. It has been described as a razor blade for the outline and a cigarete burn for the color.

i don't like needles. but tattoo needles are different than other needles. so it shouldn't be a problem. i have never felt anything but pain during a tattoo. i have a very high pain tolerance tho. it all depends on you. some people can't handle it. but definitely you should get the full experience of a tattoo and that includes the pain. i honestly feel that if you don't deserve the tattoo if you avoid the pain. everything worth anything is painful in some way.

If you think you are going to pass out you shouldn't get a tattoo. You will wind up with a half done tattoo because they wont continue if you loose consciousness. Stay away from numbing creams they will clean your skin first and it will be wiped away. And it doesn't hurt that bad. It feels like a burning sensation, like an Indian burn. Why do you want a tattoo anyway because everyone else on the planet has one and you want to be just like them.

ummm...if you're scared of needles, don't get a tattoo! that's all they use! there are no permanent markers! if you fainted getting your ears pierced, i suggest not to tattoo.
the numbing cream will most likely not last too long, because the tattooist wipes away the ink and blood every few minutes.
