I ask this because there is this one hospital that always messes up and they sent my friend home last night with that high of a fever. shouldnt they give her something to make the fever go down or atleast keep a close eye on her because her fever is staying the same and wont go away. im really worried about her because she looks like she is in so much pain.

People are generally delerious and unconcious with a fever over 105, so I highly doubt that your friend had a fever of 109. She would be dead. She probably had a fever of 100.9 and that would be okay to send someone home with. She needs to follow up with her regular doctor during normal business hours.

I doubt you have the fever right, it was probably 100.9 which really isn't that high of a fever. The hospital really doesn't bat an eyelash at an otherwise healthy person with a fever of 100.9 with strep. You get an antibiotic and some Motrin and some advice to take it easy for the next few days. If it doesn't get any better or gets worse then you need to come back or see your doctor. Considering brain damage starts at 107 and fevers generally don't go above 105, I seriously doubt it was 109 - they would have admitted her and she would have something more than an strep infection, she would probably be septic and need to be intubated!
If she isn't feeling any better take her to another hospital or urgent care center if you don't trust them or take her to her family doctor. They should have at least given her an antibiotic for the strep. She should also be taking tylenol every 4-6 for the fever. Also try cool baths and cool washcloths. Make sure she is at least eating a little something like crackers and drinking fluids because that will help the healing and keep from being dehydrated too.

Your friend's temperature could simply not be 109, because she would be dead. I have to agree with the previous post that the temperature is more likely to be just around 100.9, and is not an unreasonable temperature to have with strep throat.
Fever is not an enemy to combat. The body's cells are designed to work at higher temperatures, while bacteria and viruses can't. At higher temperatures, the bacteria and viruses can't reproduce easily, and the immune system can overcome them faster and easier. So the higher temperature is actually better for you, and helps you recover faster in the long run. The Tylenol may not reduce her temperature a lot, and it won't bring it down to a normal level, but that is okay. You just don't want it getting over 104, and it likely won't get that high.
Strep makes you feel downright horrible and ill, and the throat is incredibly sore. The best treatment is lots of cold liquids and lots of sleep and rest. Soft foods like jello, yogurt, and soup go down easiest and best, if she feels hungry. Most importantly, she just needs to drink loads of fluid, of whatever kind she likes, so she doesn't get dehydrated.
Strep throat is caused by a virus, and viruses aren't killed by antibiotics. That's why she wasn't given one, because they don't change anything. With or without antibiotics, most strep goes away within about 7 days. There are some throat sprays and drops which contain a numbing medicine which can make it more comfortable to swallow temporarily, and you can ask at a pharmacy for them. Otherwise, there just isn't a lot you can do for her that will make her feel much better- beyond taking care of her physical needs. You also need to practice very good handwashing, because she can give the strep to you as well. When she is better, be sure to replace her toothbrush because it will be loaded with the virus and she can reinfect herself again later.
The worst of it should pass in 3-4 days, and her throat will begin to feel less sore. She still needs to rest and take it easy, though, or it can become a much worse infection in the rest of the body. The more she rests, eats and drinks well, the sooner she will recover. It's just one of those ailments that really makes you miserable in the meantime, and remind us how good it is to be healthy.

Was she actually diagnosed with Strep? If so, she should have received antibiotics or at least a prescription for some before being sent home. True Strep is caused by a bacterial infection and not a virus. Viruses will not respond to antibiotics.

You can cool your friend down by having her take a cool shower or bath. Also, milkshakes can help ease the throat pain. You can also try Chloraseptic spray on her throat, it will numb it a bit.

If your friend doesn't get better, go to an urgent care clinic or a family doctor. Make sure that she tells them where she was treated before, and bring any medication and paperwork with her to show to them.

Any fever that high would kill you. She should take tylenol or advil to bring the fever down. If she does have strep, the doctor should have given her an antibiotic.

109 is pretty high. If she felt ok other that the fever and sore throat, its ok to send her home. She can take tylenol and advil on her own. plenty of fluids so she dosen't get dehydrated.

if she starts complaining of headache or acting funny she should go back.

Most likely her temp was 100.9, way different from the 109 she is telling you. and yes, at 100.9 it was very safe to go home and take meds and tylenol for the strep.
