Turkeys are known to have a replicating gene similar to reptiles in that they are supposed to be able to grow back limbs after being removed. They are currently evolving this gene but the evolutionary process has not perfected it yet. It is unusually triggered when bones fracture and does not trigger when a limb is removed. Scientisist project that the gene should be fully developed by the 22nd century. It has been speculated that when the gene does fully develop we will be able to remove limbs from turkeys for consumption with virtually no harm to the turkeys as the gene will be used as a defense mechanism and will cause the turkey no harm. Some believe that we will then declare the turkey to be our national bird as Ben Franklin once insisted and will still be able to eat turkey for Thanksgiving as it would not entail killing our national bird.

factory farmed animals have tons of problems because of all the excess growth hormones companies pump into them. It's not uncommon to find turkeys with extra wings, legs, or other parts. Your best bet is to just stay away from animal products all together.
