No, Phenergan is not a narcotic. I work at a university clinic as a registered nurse, and we are allowed to dispense this medicine to students for nausea and vomiting. Its generic name is Promethazine. It does have sedating effects, but it doesn't give patients a "high" like controlled substances do.

No, Phenergan (promethazine) is not a narcotic it is a phenothiazine. It is most often used for nausea/vomiting or in combination with codeine in cough syrups. It is related to certain antipsychotic drugs (used in schizophrenia). It also has sedative, antihistaminic and anticholinergic effects.

Whatever it is , it is heavy schitt. Makes people loopy as hell. Probably addictive. Also, bad reactions can include loop loop loopiness, and sometimes it won't even help nausea, but the Doctors will continue giving it anyway until the nurses start screaming at them.

Better alternative is Reglan. Milder on the mind, effective to control/reduce nausea, won't make a person near so loopy as phenergan.

I am a RN and work in a hospital. I believe phenergan (promethazine) is a controlled substance because we have it in a narcotic pixis and have to sign it out. I am not totally sure.
Pts really like it because it has a sedating effect when we give it.
The drug seekers really dig it a bunch.

It's an anti-emetic. Definitely NOT a narcotic. Don't need a DEA # to write a prescription.
