From my personal opinion, I believe that immigrants should not only be legal, but learn to speak english to live here, but who is stopping them? This is a very open-ended topic that it is difficult to express my feelings. I feel that school systems could be using their money for better things than trying to teach hispanics and latin-americans to speak english when those immigrants don't even care about our culture. It is also upsetting when an immigrant gets a job that a white/english speaking person deserves when the immigrant can't even speak English; and it's all for low pay and a corrupt economy. However, being the left winged, relgious loving person that I am, I believe that everyone should be granted freedom and love and the right to persue happieness...regardless of what they believe or how they talk. I hope that helps you Develop your opinion.

One has to learn English so that the person can go freely any where in the world. It is the International language spoken almost everywhere in the world. It acts as an umbrella to safeguard one's interests. A decade ago to learn English, you had to attend costly English classes or purchase course material like tapes and books. Now you can learn English for free from the comfort of your home using the Internet. The BBC and the British Council offer a number of on line courses, which teach written and spoken English. You can also improve your English by watching television programs and reading English newspapers. For more information, visit http://tinyurl.com/qnzpt

Anyone living here needs to learn English. Americans shouldn't have to learn an immigrants language to be able to speak to them, the immigrants should have to learn the language of the country they go to. There should be no option other than English anywhere in this country. Look at the two American flags at the bottom of this page. One for English and one for Spanish. That's a disgrace to any serviceman who gave his life for this country.

I think I could 'clean up' as a home english teacher, is what I think...and yes, I think language is VERY important. Having a common language promotes communication and hence understanding between people. If you don't speak the same language, well, then you'll never understand what the other person is really saying, hence you won't be getting into any in-depth discussions about stuff, so you probably won't end up working together or hanging out. Erasing the language barrier in this context means that people need to learn english especially if they intend to emigrate to the United States. To really assimilate, you gotta learn the lingo....

There are a lot of strong emotions tied up with a society's cultural symbols, signs, language and customs. In America, when a language other than English is spoken or appears in print it signifies something foreign. In order to assimilate into the US culture and help to break down barriers it is important that immigrants learn English. Should they have to learn English to stay here. Yes, probably so in order to ensure assimilation and to help to eliminate cultural compartmentalization.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Definitely. They can't do anything without learning English and they won't be able to get a job or do anything. They'll just end up on welfare and waste our money.Illegal Immigrants should not be able to stay in America period. Just as Glenn Beck says, illegal immigrants are like someone coming into your house without permission, and eating your food and complaining about it.

The point of immigration is assimilation into our society. There can be no assimilation if you don't speak english. If you aren't here to assimilate, you have no business being here as an immigrant. An immigrant is here to become an american.....not to create an island of their particular country within our borders. There is a term for that. It's called balkanization. It is a very destructive thing.

I stay in France. both my spouse and that i are interior sight English audio gadget yet communicate fluent French. We communicate French when we are talking to French human beings, or perhaps if we are talking to one yet another at the same time as French human beings are with us. notwithstanding at the same time as that's basically both human beings we communicate specifically English, and that i really do not imagine there is something incorrect with this - our shared cultural history is in English - for sure you should translate Billy Connolly or Steve Wright or Morecambe and smart into French, notwithstanding it would not set off the concepts we've of them. Monty Python replaced into quite prevalent in France, yet i in my opinion have purely ever considered it in English, so i do not even immediately recognize someone making a connection with it. the most element is that immigrants should manage to creating use of the language of the host united states in order that as that they could communicate effectively with others who are not from a similar cultural history at the same time as they both want to or want to. in case you imagine that they should be compelled to apply all of it the time then i ought to finish that you're literally not absolutely fluent in any languages except English.
