All these christmas questions got me thinking: I have NO idea what to get for my 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 year old daughters' stockings. I got my oldest some hair barrets because she actually has hair but that's about it. I've thought of getting them both a movie and book for their stockings but what else? I don't want to load them down with candy.

We have a family movie night once a week. This is where the movies would come in. Playdough...I'd rather stay away from for right now. My kids would mistake it with cookie dough because they always help me bake cookies if you get the picture. I have thought about slippers that match their new pajamas they're getting for Christmas but I'm not sure.

Orange? I've never heard of that. Could I use a banana instead? Their little mouths get sores when they eat fruit with too much citrus. Thanks to heredity.

I agree with the stickers.. socks.. fruit (bananas, apples, peaches, whatever they like). Those are all good ideas. Also maybe a music CD? Crayons? Some nice-scented lotion for kids? A little book? If there is some treat they like, not necessarily candy, something that's not totally bad for them...animal crackers, strawberry newtons, oatmeal cookies... that's an option too.

Really, whatever you give them, as long as you act excited about it ("LOOK! Look what Santa brought you!" or whatever), they'll probably like it too.

I've heard of oranages (not in the foot of the stocking though) and other fruits. This originated in the early frontier days when candy was scarce and expensive. I'd say any fruit would work!

Also, you could do little games or small little toys. I found a lot of those fake food items including a toaster - that pops toast, a blender that blends, and a small cash register in the $1 isle at target. My son is only 8 months but loves the toaster! I've had a few neighbor girls over that also loved them.

Also, the girls like a simple stacking toy. They are little bowls that nest inside each other. Kind of on the same line as the fake food.

Also, headbands would be good for the one that doesn't have hair. ;)

I would skip the movie. Neither one of them are really old enough to watch tv. It's very dangerous for them at this age.

How about something that goes with another present you're going to give them. Maybe put in an outfit that goes on a teddy bear and later they can open their teddy bears and then dress them up :-)

Maybe get them some cute socks. They make some cute socks for little girls with pictures on them like flowers or animals. You could get them some Christmas-themed socks with reindeer or candy canes on them.

Anyway, just some ideas. I know I got the "thumbs down" because of what I said about the tv thing, but I when I mentioned that I was serious--not trying to be rude or anything. People wonder why so many kids have ADD these days and it's because kids are watching tv too young lately. Movies and cartoons do nothing for children except harm. Instead of having family movie night, how about family game night? That would be much more stimulating and healthier in the long run.

If you don't mind peeling stickers off of things, you can get them character stickers to put in their stockings. I know that my two kids love them and have fun decorating things....if you like to have your kids experiment with making pictures and stuff, you could also get some color wonder paper with finger paints or crayons....it only colors on that paper...not clothes, carpet, walls, etc...so no messes for you to clean up but lots of artistic keepers from your kids.

How about a personalized book? Kids love to see their name in print and throughout the story. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have a lot of different titles, like Ballerina Princess, Sesame Street, Mother Goose, Santa and so many more! Check it out... :)

Well I would go with stuffed animals-defiantly not candy. Maybe a few movies like you said.
