Hi
I do body clip both of my large dogs regularaly. You'll want to run the clippers going with the direction of their coat, not against it.
I use an Oster Cordless Trimmer. It takes an A5 style blade and the blade size is use is a #10.
The blades can be replaced or sharpened as they dull and you can use different sizes depending on how short you want their coat to be.
I also use a cooling, lubricating spray.
I'd check http://www.jefferspet.com or http://www.sstack.com for pricing.
Certainly as it is the winter season if you clip your dog you'll want to be sure they have blankets so they stay warm.
Hope this helps

Any Dog like a Pekingese or Pomeranian are shown with natural coats, though some show Pekes look unnatural by the way they brush them! Double coated Dog`s can`t really have trimmed coats, it wrecks their fur. I like the natural look on Pekes, but I don`t mind trimmed Poms, (depending on the trim).

I used to be a Dog Groomer and I groomed my own dogs. When I had customers that wanted a 50 dollar clipper set from the store, i suggested they get professional clippers and blades and get a groomer to teach them how to groom their dog and maintain the equipment. It's well worth the trouble you would go to. I tried using the pet store clippers and they didn't work right. They just aren't very good. A groomer could tell you what kinds of blades to get for the breed or mix that you have. Also, if your dog is something like a lhasa poo, you could even do it by scissoring. It's a bit more tedious until you get used to it but you can do it.
If you mess up when trying or learning, your dog's hair will grow back! You'd also want to be sure that the skin blades don't get too hot but a groomer will tell you what products to get for that.

Depends on the breed, I like the WAHL clippers. For a decent haired dog I would use a 7F for rough and finishing cut in most cases with softer coats.

I have two mini Schnauzers that I clip myself ~ I use an Oster Golden A5. I use two different blades with this ~ in the summer I use a size 10 ~ in the winter when I want their coats a bit longer I use a size 7F.

I use Wahl Clippers and blunt curved scissors to trim my Schushitzu--also brush her on regular basis, she gets in wet grass and gets knit-knats. So try keep those down much as possible until her bath.

I borrowed sheep shearers for my collie, but I'm not sure I'd recommend them for a small dog.
