Depends on local laws. Most states require that any individual that carries a weapon have a concealed carry permit. Some states only allow police officers to carry concealed weapons. Just because you're a PI, doesn't give you the right to concealed carry.

Different states have different laws pertaining to private investigators. Some private investigators are allowed to carry firearms.

With a few exceptions, P/I's are required to have a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

as far as i know, everyone has the right to bear arms, provided they meet their particular home state's criteria for carrying a weapon. in michigan we recently got the "ok" for people to carry concealed weapons, once they have applied and proven they've gotten proper training in the operation of firearms. good luck!
