My personal opinion is that the free interpretation of the words is what leads now to a war. The "until...religion should be only for allah" bit might be understood as "until world lives with more moral than now". But many extremist might taken it as literally as possible.

do u know how much we muslims talked about thoses verses of fighting(not violence)in quran??
plenty too many that i;ve got sickened!
again for the million time:these verses and surah 9 , the verses talks about the battle field and not ageneral concept towards all non muslims,
this permission includes fighting in self-defense and the protection of family and property. This is along with the freedom of believing and practicing of faith. Still, always the proviso is that fighting should be the last option, when all other avenues are closed.
about the verse u quated from the surah 9,it talks about battle
the early Muslims in Arabia were forced to fight many battles, against the powerful armies of the pagans. This is when they tried to annihilate the prophet (pbuh) and his new religion.
besides, the prophet 9peace be upon him)said: {O people! Your God is one and your forefather (Adam) is one. An Arab is not better than a non-Arab and a non-Arab is not better than an Arab, and a red (i.e. white tinged with red) person is not better than a black person and a black person is not better than a red person, except in piety.}
and god says in quran:O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of God is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And God has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things)."
Holy Quran 49:13
and there are plenty too many, do u see any killing in here??!!
islam -believe it or not- is the religion of peace.u just don't understand.

Read and think!
Allah or Jesus?
By Rick Mathes
Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the training session there was a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths who explained their belief systems. I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say.
The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam complete with a video. After the presentations, time was provided for questions and answers. When it was my turn I directed my question to the Imam and asked: Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against the infidels of the world. And, that by killing an infidel, which is a command to all Muslims, they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me the definition of an infidel?"
There was no disagreement with my statements and without hesitation he replied, "Non-believers!"
I responded, So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they can go to heaven. Is that correct? The expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that of a little boy who had just gotten caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He sheepishly replied, Yes.
I then stated, Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope John Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Pat Robertson or Dr. Stanley ordering Protestants to do the same in order to go to heaven! The Imam was speechless.
I continued, I also have problem with being your friend when you and your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me. Let me ask you a question-would you rather have your Allah who tells you to kill me in order to go to heaven or my Jesus who tells me to love you because I am going to heaven and wants you to be with me? You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head in shame.
Chuck Colson once told me something that has sustained me these 20 years of prison ministry. He said to me, Rick, remember that the truth will prevail. And it will!

I think it means that you should fight until everyone believes in allah, or God, not that all people should be either muslim or dead. However, I also believe that mohammed was not a prophet but no more than a bully, murderer and a liar.

No, it command us to fight until there is no oppression and not to fight unless it is in defense. All the battles in the Prophet's times are the results of people trying to kill the Muslims and cause great corruption on the Earth.
[4:90] Exempted are those who join people with whom you have signed a peace treaty, and those who come to you wishing not to fight you, nor fight their relatives. Had GOD willed, He could have permitted them to fight against you. Therefore, if they leave you alone, refrain from fighting you, and offer you peace, then GOD gives you no excuse to fight them.
[4:75] Why should you not fight in the cause of GOD when weak men, women, and children are imploring: "Our Lord, deliver us from this community whose people are oppressive, and be You our Lord and Master."

Jihad is fighting on behalf of islam and for Allah...for a meaningful purpose, not genocide! Islam does not teach to kill, it teaches to be faithful to Allah and to educate others and spread islam. Jihad literally means struggle, and to defend yourself and your religion during a struggle is no crime..the crime is when people abuse this aspect of Islam and begin to go too far.

first let me tell you that surat AL Anfal, AL A'raf, AL Tawbah ALL address the same event (battle of Badr) where the Muslims where fighting the pagans. they clearly speak of that particular event and that particular time.
the Tafseer (explanation) of the verse says, (And fight them until sedition, idolatry, is, exists, no more and religion is all for God, alone, none other being worshipped; then if they desist, from unbelief, surely God sees what they do, and will requite them for it.)
