It could be done, if a person truly regrets has he/she gets older the kind of lifestyle and attitude they had when they were younger. I don't truly believe in or trust any organized religion, but somehow I have to give a small measure of respect to them for giving tortured souls a chance to redeem themselves. Maybe these unfortunates didn't have proper guidance or the ability to find inner strength and self-respect on their own.

Wow. There are a lot of good answer es here.
Yes, God can change someone with a terrible past. It takes commitment to change, willingness to be teachable and willingness to submit to the Potter's hand. Salvation is Glorious!
Change doesn't happen over night. If a person wants to change though by the power of God's Glory they can. The prayer closet shall be their favorite place.

I'm an atheist, so i'm very set in my ways about how people can change their lives. I think someone can change their lives without asking god to forgive them. . . It's a matter of what THEY do, not what they ask god to do for them.

Only when he is convicted of his sin in his heart, and turns from the works of Satan to God, repents.
The idea that you can be forgiven merely by asking, or saying the "sinner's prayer" is false doctrine. So is the false salvation based on "God has a wonderful life in store for you."

Yes. There are several instances in the Bible where thieves, prostitutes, etc. had committed bad deeds and asked Jesus for forgiveness and he gave it to them. If someone truly feels sorry for their sins and transgressions and repents of them and asks for forgiveness from God, I believe God will forgive them.

God already forgives you.
Sounds like you maybe need to forgive yourself; then you can truly be open to change.
Remember, you can not stop a behaviour; you need to replace it.
Good luck & God bless

Sure he can. There are many ways to change one's life and there's nothing wrong with asking God to help with it.

Yes God can forgive anything. The worst of worse things can be forgiven. We as people killed his son and he forgave them so nothing can amount to what God can forgive.
