Not mistake. The general Naturalist Atheist position is that the origin of life was coincidental and without an external purpose.
Also, higher powers would be rejected by Naturalists (FYI: Materialist is the way I'm using the term "Naturalist").
Unless of course you consider the universe and singularity to be "higher powers"...

I think so. Even atheism is a form of worship--admit it or not. It is self worship. In your most primitive society humans tend to worship even idols, beasts, nature and inate objects. It would appear that no matter how lifeless the object humans appear to have an instinctive drive to submit to a higher power. I don't know of any cuture I've heard of that didn't have some kind of religion if you go back far enough and study their history.

Of course there's a higher power than me. I'm not so full of myself that I don't think anyone or thing is any more powerful than me. A higher power can be anything you want, it doesn' necessarily have to be "God". If you want your child to be your higher power, than he/she is. Ditto for anyone else.

I don't. I believe there is no god, and that we got here via evolution.
That doesn't mean "by mistake" like Justin thinks. That means it was by a process of trial and error. As a species changed, the new traits may have made it survive better in its environment, or they may have hampered its survival. One meant that the animal had a better chance of breeding, and so passing its traits on to its offspring. The other had a better chance of feeding a predator.

I think most people do, but you will find on this site many non-believers. I was shocked at how many there are. May God bless you and all.
