I recently got a 8 year old Rescue Dalmation. He has had 2 homes in his 8 years so we are told and due to his recent owners home being sold by the owners she had to part with him.
We have a 7 year of Pit and a 5 year old Chihuahua and they all get along great, however, The Dalmation wants in the house all the time, My dogs come in during rain and extremely cold weather during the day and always at night but otherwise stay out during the day. How do I deal with his constant whinning at the back door and attempts to get out of the yard? We have a high 6ft fence but he has tried to dig so we have had to become creative in stopping that. Any advice, we do not bring any of the dogs in during the day if there is no reason and he just paces and cries.
any helpful advise to help me get him to stop this would be appreciated.

It's hard to say but if you recently got him, he may just be confused and missing his previous owner. My friend has a dalmation and she rescued her as well. The first 4 months were hard for the dog and she would constantly whine. If you think that could be a possibility then i suggest spending as much time with him as possible, even the little things like bringing him the food in the morning and petting him when you get home he needs to get into a routine. Another possibility is that he just really wants to get inside. If that's the case then I'd get him into a routine that keeps him outside as I said he is probably confused. You also have to make him understand that you are dominant and that you tell him what to do. Mainly I just think you should spend any time you have with him...it'll calm down later once he's used to u and ur home.

Well it's most likely that the dog is'nt used to being outside all day.
Think how he feels. He's in a strange place with strange dogs and while he's making the best of it he misses his old way of life.
Till you got him he probably spent most of his time indoors with people and he misses the comfort and companionship. And now in his new surroundings he probably needs reassurance from you that he belongs there and since there's no where in the yard your other 2 dogs have'nt claimed for themselves he wants to claim a place in the house for his very own where he can go when he feels sick or anxious or just wants to take a quiet nap.
It might help alot if you'd take him daily to a park or field where he can run off-leash. Dalmations require alot of exercise and roaming around the back yard is'nt enough to wear him out mentally as well as physically.

Maybe he was a house dog with his other owners and is not use to being outside all the time.It can also be separation anxiety ,poor thing hasn't had a permanent home so he could be afraid. You should try playing fetch or something that way it associates being outside with something pleasant.Be patient I am sure it's just the new surroundings.

Well maybe the previous owners just left him out and maybe hes scared to be out there try leaving him out all day and at night bring him in and love on him if you have a kennel put him in the kennel at night that might solve your problem I'm not totally sure but that's what we do with my dog.

My grandmother used to have a mixed breed who always got loose but she knew where to find him,at his old owners home,so every now and then she would take him there to see them.Mabey all he wants is to see his old owners every now and then.
